​Best practice and guidance for maximising school attendance including emotionally based school avoidance.

The purpose of this session is to facilitate and support schools/settings to:

  • Adopt a shared understanding and language around school attendance
  • Understand and implement this new Essex guidance
  • Make use of effective assessment and intervention procedures 

The session will focus on:

  • Increasing awareness of school absence issues
  • The seven principles of support
  • Conceptualisation and terminology
  • Carrying out functional assessments, and looking at risk and resilience
  • Ideas for action-planning and supporting pupils

Who is this course for?

Available to all primary, secondary, special schools, alternative providers and colleges.

It is recommended that at least two members of school staff attend including one senior leader. Would likely include staff who have a role or responsibility for maximising school attendance, but particularly those able to implement change at a whole school level e.g. Special Educational Needs Coordinators, Pastoral Leads, Inclusion Leads/Managers, Attendance Officer
