Help fund Ridley Road Shopping Village traders' legal defence!

Ridley Road Shopping Village Traders
Nov 21, 2018

At the end of October, representatives of the landlord of Ridley Road Shopping Village met with traders to discuss the Shopping Village's future. They promised that traders would be able to stay for at least six months, and that they would honour traders' rights. They repeated that promise to the Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville.

They are now trying to renege on that commitment. Last Saturday, the Shopping Village traders received new licenses which would allow for legal eviction with just 15 working days' notice, and adding an assortment of new costs to traders' rents. They were told that unless they sign these leases by Saturday 24 November, the landlord will change the locks.

We are back at square one. Rainbow Properties are ignoring the traders' legal rights, and they are threatening eviction.

The market traders' urgently need your support. They are preparing to mount a court challenge, but this will be impossible unless you and other supporters donate to their legal fund. We have a very narrow window in which to raise the money. The Crowd Justice page can be found here. Please, please donate.

You can also write to Rainbow Properties at info@rainbowproperties.co.uk, to remind them of their responsibilities to the Ridley Road community and of the commitments that they have made to the traders and to the Mayor.

There will be a community meeting at 6-8 p.m., Wednesday 5 December, at St. Marks' Church, to discuss threats to the market as a whole. We will be talking about Rainbow Properties' planning application, the history of attempts to redevelop the market, and practical methods of securing its future.
