If you have a knife you want to get rid of find out where your nearest knife disposal bin is. . It is illegal to carry any sharp bladed instrument in a public place, except a folding pocket knife that has a blade less than 3 inches long. The penalty for carrying a knife can be very severe.
If you need to carry a knife to put it in a bin, first wrap it in several layers of cardboard or paper and secure it with plenty of sticky tape so that the blade is completely protected and the knife cannot easily be removed. Although it is still an offence to have a knife in a public place, it is considered reasonable to carry it directly to a knife bin if it is wrapped in this way.
