Swim school stages

Suitable for babies and young children who are new to swimming. Suitable for young children who are unable to follow instructions and those who can follow basic instructions. Usually delivered within an adult and child setting. For gaining water confidence

Introduce your child to the water and learn the fundamentals of swimming through play. Please check with staff at the centre prior to your lessons as to whether or not parent / guardians are required in the water with your child in your specific lesson. Available for children aged three to five years, not in full-time education.

Develop basic safety awareness, movement and water confidence skills. Swimmers may use floatation aids and adults are not required to enter the water.

Develop safe entry into water including jumping, basic floating, travel and unaided rotation to regain upright positions. Floatation aids may be used.

Builds on stage 2 and includes submersion and travel up to 10 metres on the front and back, whilst developing rotation skills and water knowledge.

Focus on developing and understanding buoyancy using a range of skills. Kicking techniques for all strokes will be developed along with swimming 10 metres to a standard as directed by the ASA.

Develop 'watermanship' through sculling and treading water skills, complete rotation and performing strokes to a standard as directed by the ASA.

Develop effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing, developing water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise.

At this stage the swimmer is developing quality stroke techniques up to 100 metres, incorporating skills learnt and combining them to develop a linked routine and successfully completing an obstacle course that combines a variety of skills learnt through stages 1 to 7.

Once the swimmer has developed the core range of water skills required to be confident, you may choose to take part in different aquatic disciplines such as competitive swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming, diving and rookie lifesaving. The availability of all or some of the disciplines will depend on demand.

If your child can swim, they can become a Rookie Lifeguard. Your child will develop knowledge in water safety, rescue, resuscitation and lifesaving sports skills. Rookie Lifeguards have saved lives.

We offer swimming lessons for adults who are beginners, improvers or advanced.

We offer Bronze, Silver, Gold and Honours challenge awards. To improve a child's stamina, please speak to reception at the centres for more information.
