Inclusive Employers

WCC is a member of Inclusive Employers. In October 2019 we participated in the Inclusive Employers Standard in which we received Silver, alongside 70% of other organisations who also took part. This is a positive base on which to grow and we have evidence of how we can progress to the next level and beyond. More importantly the standard has enabled us to measure and further improve the progress we are making toward becoming a more inclusive employer by providing us with a clear indication of both our strengths and areas for improvement from an external view.

Underpinning all of this work is Our People Strategy and EDI action plan.

Inclusive Employers are the UK's first and leading membership organisation for employers looking to build inclusive workplaces. They offer consultancy, training and thought leadership, to help organisations make inclusion an everyday reality at their place of work.

Disability Confident

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) is committed to recruiting the most talented individuals and enabling every employee to be the best that they can be.

As part of being a Disability Confident employer we guarantee to interview anyone with a disability whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post. By ‘minimum criteria’ we mean that they must provide us with evidence in their application form which demonstrates that they generally meet the level of competence required for each competence, as well as meeting any of the qualifications, skills or experience defined as essential in the person specification.

What do we mean by disability?

You have a disability under the Equality Act 2010 if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

What ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ mean:

  • ‘Substantial’ is more than minor or trivial, eg. it takes much longer than it usually would to complete a daily task like getting dressed.
  • ‘Long-term’ means 12 months or more, eg. a breathing condition that develops as a result of a lung infection.
