The following privacy notice applies to the council’s Community Safety Team. It should be read in addition to the council’s overall Customer Privacy Notice

Purpose for processing

Warwickshire County Council has a statutory duty as a ‘responsible authority’ under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 for partnership working at a local level. The Community Safety Team have the responsibility to coordinate work with partner agencies to develop and implement strategies and tactics for reducing crime and disorder, anti-social behaviour and substance misuse.

To carry out this function, the work includes:

  • Developing and supporting the implementation of the Warwickshire Community Safety Agreement, including the co-ordination of subgroups, strategies and action plans related to the priorities within the agreement
  • Supporting the work of the Police and Crime Commissioner and their Police and Crime Plan
  • Co-ordinating and supporting the Safer Warwickshire Partnership Board
  • Supporting the District and Borough level Community Safety Partnerships and local operational meetings
  • Co-ordination, management and implementation of Domestic Homicide Reviews
  • Co-ordinating work undertaken by partners on Prevent, one of four objectives which make up the Government’s Strategy for Countering Terrorism, including the Warwickshire Channel Panel
  • Managing the partnership 'Safe in Warwickshire' website
  • Nuisance Motorcycles initiative - ‘Dob em in’
  • Property marking
  • Public events
  • Consultation surveys online and face to face
  • Business Crime and Cybercrime initiatives

  • Information from statutory and non-statutory agencies and organisations

Our lawful basis for processing this personal information is:

  • Public task as part of the council’s official functions 

We may also process some sensitive (special category) information, which can include but is not limited to:

  • Physical or mental health details (incl. health or social care records)
  • Racial or ethnic origin
  • Lifestyle
  • Political opinions
  • Offences (including alleged offences) criminal proceedings, outcomes and sentences
  • Victim of crime information
  • Religious or other beliefs of a similar nature
  • Pregnancy details
  • Special needs requirements
  • Citizenship / Nationality
  • Country of Birth
  • Visual images of individual(s)
  • Information, views and opinions gathered from perpetrators, family, friends, colleagues and/or other contacts

Our lawful basis for processing this personal information is: 

  • Substantial public interest on the basis of UK law

Who we may share your information with

Partners in Warwickshire that have agreed and signed up to a Community Safety Information Sharing Protocol

The main partners we share information with are listed below:

Police, District and Borough Councils, Fire & Rescue, Probation Service and Health Agencies and other partner agencies listed as signatories in the Community Safety Information Sharing Protocol.

In certain circumstances, we may need to share information with an agency that is not signed up to the protocol. In this scenario, a specific instruction and handling arrangement will be provided, and the agency representatives required to sign a confidentiality agreement to confirm that they understand their responsibilities.

We may also need to share your information for crime prevention projects with companies providing national property registers (for example, Bike Register, SmartWater, SelectaDNA)

Information will only ever be shared when it is strictly necessary to help us prevent crime and disorder.

How long we will hold your information

All information will be held for the current year plus 6 years.

Please note: all stated retention periods will be subject to any legal holds imposed under the Inquiries Act 2005 that may concern the information and override standard retention.
