“I know everything there is to know about food,” Adele declares in her British Vogue video. It’s knowledge that served her well as the first cover star to undertake Vogue’s Ultimate British Taste Test. The megastar was invited to step into Adele’s Cafe – inspired by the greasy spoons of her native London – for a blind taste test featuring classic English dishes, from cockles to spotted dick.
Anyone concerned that Adele, who now lives in LA and is one of the biggest-selling artists on the planet, may have lost touch with her Tottenham roots can breathe a sigh of relief: here is proof that the superstar can still recognise a full English – even with her eyes closed.
As well as gamely donning a blindfold (“I feel like I’m starring in the next Fifty Shades of Grey movie”) to sample everything from kippers to trifle, Adele shared some of her fondest food memories, revealed the meal she loves to cook for her son, and recalled her own stint working in a “caff” as a teenager, in the days before she became a global superstar and the queen of the heartbreak ballad.
