Recruitment of Christian Ott to the University of Turku

Doctor Christian Ott has been appointed to the position of a senior researcher for a fixed-term of two years to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Turku. The position has a four-month trial period.

​The recruitment of Dr Christian Ott has created discussion especially in social media.

The University of Turku has a policy of zero tolerance towards harassment and bullying.

– Dr Ott’s past was known during the recruitment process, and the matter has been carefully considered. The recruitment was discussed with the staff of the unit in a briefing on 25 January, says Rector Kalervo Väänänen of the University of Turku.

Reason for Dr Christian Ott’s recruitment to the University of Turku has been the strong evidence of his scientific merits of which several statements were received. Dr Ott will be working as a senior researcher without teaching or supervising responsibilities.

Dr Christian Ott worked as a professor of Astronomy at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He resigned from this post.
