By bringing together photonics, electronics and quantum technology, EHCI drives exponential computing, communication and sensing technologies, to enable a sustainable information society.

About

We live in the era of information. Data is everywhere and everything is data. We want to be connected and we want things to work faster and for our information to be safe. The future of our information society is driven by exponential technologies in computing, communication and sensing. This trend will continue and will increasingly impact our lives and society for the better. At the same time, we are dealing with a global energy crisis. Without doing anything these fast-growing technologies will demand enormous amounts of energy. Therefore, the EHCI aims for sustainable solutions by exponentially decreasing the energy consumption of computing and communication, to enable the exponential growth of these technologies.

The EHCI addresses this challenge by excelling in and through the unique synergy of two eminent research fields: the precision and speed of photonics and mind-blowing magic of quantum technology. By bringing together these technologies and working from an engineering science perspective the EHCI is uniquely able to transfer research into real-world sustainable applications. With a focus on societal needs the EHCI will drive the roadmap for these exponential technologies in computing, communication and sensing, as TU/e has already proved in integrated photonics.

EHCI Grand Challenges

EHCI aims to make the roadmap for exponential technology happen, by developing new technologies, such as new types of processors, highly-efficient communication transceivers, secure communication technology and ubiquitous sensors.

With its unique positioning the EHCI will attract and gear new investments towards realizing world-leading scientific results, innovative startup and spinoff companies and start up new, explorative research.

The focus of the scientific program is structured around three Grand Challenges.

Eindhoven Semiconductor Summer School

ADVANCING INNOVATIONS IN ELECTRONICS & PHOTONICS

The Eindhoven Semiconductor Summer School (ESSS) will host 60 students and provide 16 lectures from industry and academia. Students will also participate in challenging projects, collaborate closely with the companies from the region, further enriching the learning experience while fostering new collaborations and exchanges.

The Eindhoven Semiconductor Summer School is a joint initiative of Apllied Physics & Science Education and Electrical Engineering at TU/e and the industrial ecosystem of Brainport Eindhoven.

EHCI VACANCIES

By bringing together two eminent research fields: photonics and quantum technology, and working from an engineering science perspective the EHCI is uniquely able to transfer research into real-world sustainable applications. With a focus on societal needs the EHCI will drive the roadmap for these exponential technologies in computing, communication and sensing, as the TU/e has already proved in integrated photonics.

The institute has a strong infrastructure, both outside and inside. The EHCI is strongly positioned in the local Brainport ecosystem, connected to world-class industry and knowledge partners, and has state-of-the-art facilities to enable internal and external users to perform cutting-edge research.

In order to advance photonics and quantum technology related research TU/e has many research vacancies varying from assistant professor, associate professor to full professor. Please see our vacancy page and join us!
