Two singing-actors are needed to provide performances for a one-off concert of newly commissioned monologues and existing musical theatre songs exploring experiences of living with HIV past, present, and future.

 

Actor 1: British South Asian, 20s/30s, comfortable playing male (cis, trans, nonbinary, gnc)

Actor 2: Any ethnicity, any age, comfortable playing female (cis, trans, nonbinary, gnc)

 

Fee

£750 inclusive

 

Rehearsal: 

Dress rehearsal: 11am-6pm - Sat 25 Mar (Halle St Michael’s, Manchester)

Performance and rehearsal: 10am-9pm - Sun 2 Apr (The Lowry, Salford)

 

Potential extra rehearsal on Zoom for monologue work and/or short music rehearsals in advance of these dates working around the creative team’s availability.

Event description

The Sunday Boys – Manchester’s low voiced LGBTQ+ choir, George House Trust and HIV activist Nathaniel J Hall join forces to present an evening of songs and stories of HIV past, present and future.

 

Including well-known songs from stage and screen performed by The Sunday Boys, the evening explores HIV’s influence on society, culture and music from 1981 to the present day and beyond.

 

The Sunday Boys are proud to present two new musical commissions by composers Eamonn O’Dwyer and Colm Molloy written in collaboration George House Trust service users, as well as four new monologues documenting lived experience of HIV by Kathryn Alsbury, Paul Fairweather, Nathaniel J Hall, and Emma Zadow.

Actor 1: Monologues by Paul Fairweather and Nathaniel J Hall

‘You gotta die sometime’ from Falsettoland - William Finn (C4-G5 - potential to transpose down)

‘Venice’ from Elegies - William Finn (A3- F5) 

 

Actor 2: Monologues by Kathryn Alsbury and Emma Zadow

‘My brother lived in San Francisco’ from Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens - Janet Hood (F#4 - Db6)

Ordinary by Fred Hersh (Eb5 - F6)

 

NB: subject to change in discussion with performers. There is potential for further solo songs (or duets) to be included in the performance.

 

Audition process

  • A bio, spotlight profile, or similar;

  • State whether you are looking to perform the material for ‘Actor 1’ or ‘Actor 2’
