The Social Media Exchange celebrates the power of digital storytelling and the impact it has to positively change the world around us. This event, organised by digital media training company Sounddelivery is a series of bitesized interactive masterclasses, practical creative surgeries and networking opportunities to help charities navigate the changing media landscape – both on and offline – and exploit the opportunities available to tell your stories. With 20+ sessions available you will be able to pick and mix to create your own training plan. Sessions will be led by staff from BBC News, BBC Radio Four BBC News, BBC Radio Four, JustGiving, Save the Children, sounddelivery, MNDA and more.

Curated by London Met Digital Media lecturer and filmmaker Suzanne Cohen, the event features discussions with two accomplished filmmakers in the expanding field of participatory documentary.

Lisa Fingleton has over twenty years experience working in a creative and collaborative way with community groups. Outside I’m Singing is a year long project with Ireland’s only lesbian choir, and documents the process of creating a musical with an incredible group of women and the obstacles they’ve had to overcome to sing out and proud.

Curated by London Met Digital Media lecturer and filmmaker Suzanne Cohen, the event features presentations and Q&As with two creative practitioners working in the criminal justice system.

Tony Gammidge runs video and animation projects on medium secure and psychiatric units. These collaborative projects aim to give voice to the service users on the units, many of whom are amongst the most socially excluded and stigmatised in our society. They give participants an opportunity to make their own films using stories from their experiences, memories and imagination. He will be screening a number of short films from the projects during the presentation.

Participatory Film in Action is a regular event curated by digital media lecturer and filmmaker Suzanne Cohen at London Metropolitan University.

A screening of short films, presentations and Q&As by project leaders and participants of the Inna Vision Film School.

Inna Vision Film School has been a year long participatory project based in East London, working with adults with and without lived experience of mental health issues, with a particular focus on African and Caribbean communities.
