Setting Goals

Today in assembly, we spent some time thinking about goals and how people work towards these.

We shared some of our own goals, and then looked at the goals of an historic explorer, Nan Shepherd. We learnt about how she inspired modern walkers to explore the Cairngorm Mountain, and watched a video clip of a lady explaining about the sorts of clothes Nan would have worn when exploring (and how these are not very appropriate in modern day standards!)

Did you know, Nan Shepherd is pictured on Scottish £5 notes, and is one of the first women (alongside scientist Mary Somerville) to appear on main issue Scottish notes?

We also watched a video clip of young Artic explorers preparing for their exploration, and thought about how they may do this mentally and physically. We heard from a successful Artic explorer that pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone helps to build resilience, and thought this was something we could all apply when working towards our goals this year, whether they are big or small!
