'Back in time' - Year 2

Today, it was the turn of Year 2 to visit the Radstock Museum as part of their topic "Back in Time" where the children are learning about the Victorians.

We were very excited as we set off on the coach and some of us had dressed as Victorians! We have been learning about Brunel and the importance of coal mining and children working in coal mines. When we got to the Radstock Museum we went straight to the Victorian classroom and noticed how different it was to our classroom. We then visited the coal mine, the grocery shop and looked at some everyday household objects from the past. The coal mine was dark and we saw how children worked as trappers and coal bearers. Joe and Edward pulled their load of coal (Nadia and Defne) on the coal sled! The bell rang and it was time for our Victorian school lesson. We had to sit very straight and copy the letters as they were written along time ago on slates.

The children did wonderfully well and showed a real interest with their questions and knowledge.

We had a great time. Thank you to all the volunteers who came who made it possible!
