St Saviour's Church Schools

A message from our Governors

My name is Chris and I’ve been a MAT Appointed Governor since February 2019.  Along with Hannah Holman, I am the Joint-Lead Governor’s for Health & Safety for the schools.  For this news article, we wanted to let you know about the some of the work the school has been involved in to make drop-off & pick-up times safer, in relation to the public highway.

As we all know, the school sites are next to a number of roads that can be busy with parked & passing traffic.  We already have the 2 controlled crossings on Worcester Buildings helping to serve the Infant School and the upper-entrance to the Junior School.  However, the use of the lower-entrance to the Junior School on Brookleaze Buildings during the pandemic has been a successful social distancing measure and something the school is keen to continue with.  This has meant a focus on how it can be improved.  So, as part of a wider highways improvement strategy in Larkhall, a small number of parking spaces are being permanently suspended opposite the entrance in front of the housing by way of new double-yellow lines.  This should make crossing the road safer at that point by increasing the visibility up the road.

Furthermore, on Worcester Buildings a single parking space is being suspended by the junction with Brookleaze Buildings, again through new double-yellow lines, so that larger vehicles can better pull in when heading toward town.  This should help alleviate congestion at this point, and result in free flowing traffic and less idling vehicles, so hopefully the air quality will improve.

These works are currently being programmed by the Council to take place in February half-term.

Other improvements to the school entrances and playgrounds are being discussed, and we hope to be able to update you on those soon.
