Senior Academy

The Queen's Senior Academy is a two-year programme supporting Year 13 into Year 14 participants in non-selective secondary schools and further education colleges to develop their potential to progress to Higher Education, including Queen's University Belfast.

About the programme

The Queen's Senior Academy programme runs across Northern Ireland and enrols over fifty pupils who are nominated by either their teachers, Head of Year or Head of Careers, to take part in the programme of activities, workshops and events designed to develop academic skills and their understanding and knowledge of university.

The programme supports participants who are motivated and committed to achieving their greatest academic potential. One of the key aspects of university life is independent study, and the Senior Academy participants are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning and to develop skills to manage their time effectively. We endeavour to provide the best environment for students to learn about and experience a little of university life.

As part of the Senior Academy programme each committed participant can earn 10 hours subject specific tutoring, and we hope that our participants will not only further develop their knowledge of the selected subject but also acquire exam skills and techniques that will stay with them in further study.
