Maksym Kozytsky, who heads the Lviv Regional Military Administration in western Ukraine, said: “The Lviv Region is Ukraine’s western gateway to Europe and it’s only a matter of time before Ukraine becomes a member of the European Union.”

He added: “We are working to bring the infrastructure up to European standards as well.”

For cars: Nyzhankovychi-Malhowice

Kozytsky said on the social messaging app Telegram that “Poland is financing a PLN 109 million (EUR 24 million) development of a border crossing for cars" between the Ukrainian town of Nyzhankovychi and the Polish village of Malhowice.

Moreover, Ukraine is building a new road linking Nyzhankovychi with the Ukrainian city of Stryi, according to Kozytsky.

The project is being financed by a Polish loan, he said, as cited by Polish state news agency PAP

For trains: link to Przemyśl

Elsewhere, design work is under way on reinstating a railway link between the region and the southeastern Polish city of Przemyśl, Kozytsky said.

For pedestrians: Hrebenne-Rava Ruska

At the same time, a pedestrian crossing point is being built between the Polish village of Hrebenne and Ukraine’s Rava-Ruska.

Kozytsky said the crossing would be “disability-friendly and inclusive, with wheelchair ramps and additional bathrooms.”

The Hrebenne-Rava Ruska crossing “is financed by a Polish EUR 1.5 million loan and should be ready in seven to eight months,” according to Kozytsky.

Thursday was day 99 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
