We are Oceanology International

Connecting the Global Oceanology Community

Over 50 years of history and expertise

Oi launched in the UK in 1969 and runs every two years, and in 2019 we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Over the years, Oi has established itself as a truly global portfolio with events in the Middle East, China and San Diego.

The three-day conference and exhibition will be returning in 2024 aiming to welcome over 8,000 attendees and enable more than 500 exhibitors to showcase the latest ocean technologies and developments on the event floor, as well as on water demos and vessels.

Oceanology International is the leading forum where industry, academia and government share knowledge and connect with the world’s marine science and ocean technology communities. Learn from ocean leaders from across the globe, boost your technical and blue economy knowledge, and connect with your industry colleagues at one of our many social events.

Oi History

In 1969, Oceanology International launched in Brighton to “ride the wave” of progress in the ocean industry. From that moment on, the show grew to witness major technological developments and become the world’s largest ocean technology exhibition and conference. Over time the Oi portfolio has established itself globally with events in China, the Americas and the Middle East.

Today the event continues to hold its name as the leading global event for marine science and the ocean technology community, presenting a unique opportunity for exhibitors and visitors to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business under one roof.

A platform for ideas and progress

Oi has been around for over 50 years and in that time large amounts of information has been discovered about the ocean. We need technologies to discover resources and create jobs and energy while continuing to regulate climate and support biodiversity. Litter and pollution, over-fishing and loss of habitats are problems we are currently facing in the industry, and here at Oi we want to find new ways to tackle these threats moving forward.

We believe that the connections made at Oi can unlock the innovations necessary to meet the needs of the next 50 years, enabling collaboration, problem-solving, and long-term holistic strategies for exploring, harvesting and protecting the oceans.

Where is it?

ExCel London is situated in the heart of London’s historic Royal Docks and were built in the mid-19th century – a marvel of Victorian engineering. Situated close to canary wharf and on London’s life force the river Thames, the area is also becoming a new hub for business.

Decarbonising the events industry, together

At RX, we are serious about sustainability. We are founding members of the Net Zero Carbon Events pledge to make our company, our shows and the wider events industry net zero. We commit to being Net Zero by 2040 and to make a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

In 2023 we will publish our pathway to net zero, setting out our reduction strategy with key milestones for all our shows. Given the complex nature of our supply chain and the emissions associated with a show, it is only by working together as an industry that we will be able to reduce our impact. We are building a company of net zero heroes to take action and ensure a sustainable future
