The sun has arrived so grab a free ice cream and jump aboard the Network Rail Southern region Great British Summer Holiday!

Region & Route:
Southern: Kent

It has taken a while, but the sun has finally arrived, and Network Rail Southern region is celebrating the start of the summer holidays with free ice cream and a selfie competition at its amazing London stations.

Passengers making their way to the beaches and countryside of the South will get a flavour of the great British summer this July and August as Network Rail and the rail industry warmly welcomes them back to travelling by train at London Waterloo, London Victoria, London Bridge and Charing Cross.

Passengers can take a selfie in an iconic Mini draped in the Union Jack and get the chance to win some prizes - including a luxury food-hamper and tickets to a Southeastern railway destination of their choice - and there will be free ice creams at weekends to get people into the spirit of The Great British Summer Holiday.

Lucy McAuliffe Stations Director Southern region, said: “The past 15 months have been really difficult for so many of us, but as more restrictions are removed, we want to make our passengers feel especially welcomed back to our stations and onto the railway.

“We know this summer will be different, with trips overseas difficult for lots of passengers, however we hope to get everyone in the mood for a staycation with our Great British Summer Holiday campaign.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
