Job Description

This is a full time/fixed term opportunity for 34 months

The System Developer / Data Analyst (KTP Associate) will be an employee of Glasgow Caledonian University but will be based at John G Russell with regular supervision meetings with the University’s supervisory team

An additional £5,667 training and development budget is available for this opportunity

The Role

The project provides an excellent opportunity to use cutting edge technical skills in data engineering, including data translation, ETL and streaming, to develop a solution to consolidate diverse internal and external data sources that are crucial to the provision of a wide range of transport and logistics services. In addition, an incorporated feature to the required platform for live tracking of the company’s assets needs to be implemented. The skills associated with developing and delivering this capability will include data layer design, data modelling, storage and data exchange, cloud data platforms, streaming ETL/ELT and analytics.  The project is aimed at building a consolidated data architecture that provides integration in real-time covering multiple different platforms and customers that are unique to the business, and building a solution which provides flexibility to extend in the future. Combined with this, we expect to generate high quality research publications from the work.

The successful candidate will have a 2.1 degree or higher in either Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

They should also have:

  • Knowledge of relational/non-relational
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT design.
  • Strong programming skills including Python.
  • Experience with systems and software development lifecycles.
  • Experience with REST APIs and services.
  • General knowledge of security threats, data security principles and GDPR.
  • General knowledge of AI and machine learning.

There is a possibility that John G Russell may recruit the Associate at the end of the project.
