💜At NRHS we're wishing everyone a happy International Women's Day💜
It goes without saying that we should be celebrating a diverse and inclusive workforce all year round. At NRHS we're continuously striving to do better for everyone who works with us and for us.
This year as part of the #IWD celebrations we spoke to several of our amazing women across our business, asking for their number once piece of advice for anyone looking to start a career in rail. 🚆
A huge thank you to our fantastic women, and we hope their stories inspire you to join us in this evolving industry 💪
⭐ Lizi, S&T Apprentice - The most important advice I would give for women who are thinking of joining the railway is to not be afraid! There are great people here who support and look after you and make you feel so welcome, it is a friendly and enjoyable workplace.
⭐ Jenny, Planning Manager - Don’t be put off by thinking this is a male dominated industry. There are so many opportunities for everyone, including women. My advice would be just take that leap of faith and reach for the stars in all that you do.
⭐ Amy, Team Organiser for Infrastructure - Go for it. There are so many avenues for career development and so much to get involved with and to learn. There are no boring days in rail!
⭐ Debbie, Work Planner (Development)- It is a great place to work offering good career and progression opportunities, training, competitive salary, good working conditions and recognition scheme.
⭐ Hannah, Graduate Civil Engineer - To other women considering a career in rail, I would say “You never know until you try!”. The railway industry is huge and there are endless opportunities for women to get involved. There is engineering, HR, finance, operations (and more!) so there is something for everyone. The railway is utilised by everyone so should be worked and improved on by everyone. Diversity and inclusion is key in driving changes.
⭐ Charlotte, Section Planner - Definitely do it, it’s a chance for women to develop and have an amazing career. My advice would be to look at all the other jobs/sectors within the company in case you want to steer in certain directions then they can help you go towards it.
⭐ Louise, Senior Asset Engineer (Buildings and Civils) - Go for it! The railway environment is evolving and becoming a more inclusive place to work. There is a wide variety of opportunities available to you at Network Rail and you are actively supported to develop within your role, as a leader and as a person.

2yThis will be interesting to follow and see the results. Escalator accidents with luggage /wheelchairs are just too frequent and painful. More does need to be done.
