When I read the news about Backlight’s strategic investment in 5 media tech businesses (ftrack, iconik, Celtx, Wildmoka and Zype) in April 2022, I was fascinated by the characteristics of this deal and the variety of trends it reflects. It was therefore a great pleasure (and great fun) to speak to representatives from Backlight and Wildmoka about it last month. Thanks so much to Ben Kaplan, Mike Green, Cristian Livadiotti, and Thomas Menguy for being such wonderful guests. You can watch the interview here: https://lnkd.in/d2u7XYSD In this in-depth, refreshing, and free-flowing discussion, we talked about: 🔳Why Backlight decided to make this investment 🔳Why Wildmoka stands to benefit from it. 🔳Best-of-breed vs. end-to-end in media tech. 🔳Decentralized governance and focus on innovation. 🔳The importance of technology talent. 🔳Convergence and the potential of the enterprise video market. Although this conversation was recorded just before NAB Show 2022, I believe it is packed with insights that are and will be relevant to all media tech professionals. Do watch it and let us know your thoughts! #mediatech #investment #strategic #drivers #cloud #saas #governance #techtalent #innovation #enterprisevideo #interview #iabm #backlight #wildmoka

Full circle. 9 years ago, I joined IABM. My first day with the organization was in Las Vegas to attend NAB Show! I was younger, a bit scared and in need of a haircut, as you can see from the first photo I have shared. Fast forward to today, I am leaving the organization in search of meaningful change. My last day with IABM will be in Las Vegas, attending yet another NAB Show. I am older, a bit less scared and less in need of a haircut, I think. I could not be more grateful to IABM. It has allowed me to evolve professionally, academically, and personally. It has allowed me to live in and experience different countries. It has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people both in the IABM team and in member companies. It has allowed me to work in an industry I love. I think I have become a better person because of the combination of all these things. Thank you to all my friends and mentors for helping me through this journey, and particularly Peter White, Lucinda Meek, Lisa Collins, Ben Dales, Roger Thornton, and Alex Timbs. After NAB Show, I will take a few months off to recharge. I am first heading to Argentina for an exploratory trip and will then move to what comes next. I will keep my network posted on what that will be. PS The last image I shared is a gift I received a while ago. It is a visual representation of the song Time by Pink Floyd – credits to Giorgia Lopez for creating it ❤️

A belated thank you to all my panelists Gus Hurdle, Edurne Bengoa, and Duncan Hooper in the Thrive session at #BaMLiveLondon last week. I thought it was a great session, and I had a lot of fun chairing it – I even enjoyed multi-tasking between Slido and the panel moderation (see photo below)! Thank you also to Robert Ambrose for sharing the stage with me in the Intelligence session. It was a great interactive session and it was very interesting to talk to the audience about their use of Gen AI. See you next year! #MediaTechTrends #IndustryInsights

Excited to attend #BaMLiveLondon next week. I will be chairing two sessions at the event: · Thrive: How can media companies not only survive, but shine? · Intelligence: Leveraging Market Insight in the Gen AI Era In the Thrive main stage session, I will discuss what media businesses should focus on to thrive in an increasingly crowded marketplace with Laura Conway, Edurne Bengoa, Duncan Hooper, and Gus Hurdle. We will talk about changing viewing habits and their impact on technology, business, and content models. In the Intelligence breakout session, Robert Ambrose and I will explore the topic of leveraging market insight (including an update on market trends) and engage in an interactive discussion with the audience on the impact of Gen AI on market intelligence. The agenda is packed with many other insightful sessions both in the main stage and in the breakout stream. Have a look at it here: https://lnkd.in/dprRhurK This is a great conference bringing together demand and supply of MediaTech as well as blending sessions on macro trends affecting the industry with discussions on more specific topics – all this driven by audience interaction. I had an amazing time at #IBC2023. As usual, it was great to see friends at the show and meet new people. It is a tiring show but always worth it – I thought that the atmosphere at this year’s show was energetic, continuing the positive momentum from IBC 2022. Big thanks to everyone who took the time to speak with me and share their views on industry trends. I had the pleasure of presenting our State of MediaTech report and chairing the State of MediaTech panel session that opened the #IBCConference – see photo below. Big thanks to Aditi Pandey, Jade Kurian, Allen Broome, and Kishore Krishnamurthy for making my job easy and sharing some candid insights into the future of the industry. We spoke about macro headwinds, technology investment, AI, and talent. It was also great to participate in different social events and do some interviews around the show. Thanks to TinkerList.tv and Aaron Nuytemans for inviting me to speak at their stand along with some great industry experts. My interview is available here: https://lnkd.in/dPCHu6Tp Finally, it was amazing to meet my friend Alex Timbs in person! #ibc2023 #event #mediatech #research
