Jacobs today announces the creation of 100 jobs over the next two years in Ireland, at the official opening of its new state-of-the-art office in Sandyford, Dublin. The company is the largest provider of engineering, procurement, construction management and commissioning, qualification and validation services in Ireland, employing more than 1,200 people in #Dublin, #Cork and #Belfast. During the past 50 years, Jacobs has supported the delivery of more than €50 billion worth of award-winning critical infrastructure projects for clients in Ireland. Technology giant IBM Ireland today announced a new investment that will create up to 800 high-tech #jobs across Ireland, helping build advanced software underpinned by the latest Artificial Intelligence technologies to advance Security, Automation and Hybrid Cloud. The AI technology will include foundational and Large Language Models that are key for Generative AI. The new staff will join IBM’s and Red Hat’s vibrant and diverse workforce, and help enhance #Ireland’s rich and highly skilled technology talent pool that supports employment in knowledge-intensive and high-technology sectors. MIT Technology Review reports that 81% of executives believe that #AI will be a major competitive advantage for their businesses, and approximately half of companies worldwide are currently using some form of AI. Some guardrails are already being constructed to move AI in an ethical direction through legislation such as Europe’s AI Act, due in early 2024. The AI Act is the first-ever legal framework on AI, which addresses the risks of artificial intelligence and positions #Europe to play a leading role globally. Some other geographies are putting similar structures in place with the goal of protecting citizens while still allowing companies to realize the technology’s many benefits. The OUTsurance Group, an international insurance provider with operations in South Africa and Australia, has today announced the launch of its car and home insurance offer in Ireland. The company currently employs 70 people at its head office in Cherrywood in #Dublin, but will grow its headcount to 300 roles over the next three years as part of an overall investment programme of €160 million. Research and Markets estimates the #sports tech space is growing globally at 13.8% per year, and will jump from $21.9 billion in 2022 to $41.8 billion by 2027. Pharmaphorum‘s Nicole Raleigh just published her first article following a visit to the West of Ireland, permitting an inside peek into the world-class #lifesciences innovation and manufacturing scene the country has to offer. In Ireland, biopharmaceutical presence has almost doubled in size over the last decade, with nearly 40,000 employees and more than €80 billion in annual exports (making it the world’s third-largest exporter of pharmaceutical goods, which make up 39% of the country’s annual exports). At present, there are more than 85 pharmaceutical companies operating out of Ireland.
