April is Bowel Cancer Awareness month. In support of Wessex Cancer Alliance we’re proud to share the story of our Board Member Ian Girling, Dorset Chamber - in a bid to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms and when you should speak to your GP. #BowelCancer #WessexBowelCancerCampaign
Chief Executive at Dorset Chamber, Dorset LEP Board Member, Weymouth College Board Member, member of the Dorset Integrated Care Partnership, GU6 Champion and member of British Chambers of Commerce South West.
We are shining a light on men's health at the moment with our forthcoming men's wellbeing event and April is Bowel Cancer Awareness month. Bowel cancer is the 4th most common cause of cancer and every year 43,000 people are diagnosed and 1 in 15 males will be experience this. Last year I suffered a slipped disc and underwent an MRI scan. As a side issue, the doctors weren't happy with the shape of my bowel and I went through a number of tests for bowel cancer. Luckily I had the all clear but it was a worrying time and I knew I had some symptoms but ignored them. A few weeks ago I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and recorded a short video with the Wessex Cancer Alliance to raise awareness of symptoms and encourage people to get tested if they think anything is wrong. The tests are painless and I want to encourage men not to worry about the embarrassment factor and don't ignore symptoms.
