📢 *** CALL FOR HOME RECOVERY CARE INNOVATIONS *** 📢 RECOVER @ HOME – A personal health-plan which patients can execute outside the hospital. As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, hospitals are under increasing pressure to deal with the growing demand to manage patients with different levels of acuteness. Patients need to be discharged quicker and the rehabilitation needs to be managed at home. To organise this healthcare professionals need to make a holistic patient assessment to create a personal health-plan which the patient can carry out at home. For this to take place Key Innovations are required! Such as: · Patient assessment (physical, mental..) to create an individual health plan · Devices for intelligent assistance for rehabilitation at home · Remote rehabilitation delivery-models to connect all stakeholders in the case management, identify issues early and triage risk assessment for the right level of response. · Data sharing within the care-network How can you support? Esther Maas received her PhD degree on 9th April for her research that focuses on using 3D+t ultrasound images to develop a 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘆𝘀𝗺𝘀. Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are a serious medical concern as they can rupture with life-threatening consequences. Currently, the risk of rupture is mainly estimated by the size of the aneurysm. However, scientific research has shown that 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 such as the AAA volume, curvature, elasticity, and maximum wall stress can significantly improve personalized rupture risk estimation. 👉 We congratulate Esther on her outstanding achievement and are excited to see the impact of her work on patient-specific care ! This research was conducted in collaboration with Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, Eindhoven University of Technology, and Philips Benelux within e/MTIC. 👉 You're invited to attend the inaugural lecture of Prof. Dr. Misha Luyer tomorrow, April 5th, 2024 from 4:00-5:00 pm at the Blauwe zaal in the TU/e Auditorium. The lecture topic is "Technology to Improve Oncological Surgery and Perioperative Care." Luyer is currently working on a promising technique that can be used for detecting and characterizing pancreatic cancer, and that is artificial intelligence. The implementation of new techniques such as artificial intelligence requires the collaboration of various parties, including healthcare institutions, academic institutions, and industry. Therefore, such research is taking place within the #eMTIC community. If you cannot join in person, you can also participate online through this link: https://lnkd.in/eMZhWMQw. Read more in the article Catharina Hospital Eindhoven (Dutch only) https://lnkd.in/gq6Gz8GT #emtic #collaboration #pancreaticcancer Eindhoven University of Technology - Nicole van Overveld, Catharina Hospital Eindhoven - Geert Piek

Research with great impact! 🏅 Laury Quaedackers, congratulations on your well-deserved doctor's degree! 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗽𝘀𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿. Individuals with this condition experience involuntary episodes of falling asleep at random times. People with narcolepsy may also experience other symptoms that require proper treatment and guidance. During her thesis presentation, clinical psychologist Laury Quaedackers demonstrated a special app called '𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗽𝘀𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿'. This app allows patients to track their symptoms over an extended period. 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 with narcolepsy for her PhD research. This research revealed that narcolepsy causes not only drowsiness, concentration and memory problems, but also social issues, fatigue, a depressed mood, and anxiety or panic complaints. These symptoms tend to change over time, leading to this app's development. Within the e/MTIC community, students and clinicians of Kempenhaeghe and Eindhoven University of Technology joined forces to realize this app in cooperation with SEIN - Expertisecentrum voor epilepsie en slaapgeneeskunde Read more @TU/e (NL/ENG): https://lnkd.in/eDRDJFnJ Video Narcolepsie Monitor: https://lnkd.in/gRJWCXn The '𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗽𝘀𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿' is available in the 𝗔𝗽𝗽 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆: https://lnkd.in/dvnnt_qb #emtic #collaboration #medtech #narcolepsy #sleepdisorder Promotors: Sebastiaan Overeem, Panos Markopoulos | Anna Vilanova | Kempenhaeghe Marianne Verstappen, mirjam brennand-wilms, Karen Priem | Eindhoven University of Technology Nicole van Overveld ,

We want to share the exciting news! Emma Moonen received her PhD degree cum laude on March 7th. Many congratulations from e/MTIC to her! Emma has developed a 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁-𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 that has the potential to revolutionize the way we monitor hospitalized patients. Typically, getting crucial 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀, which can only be carried out at hospitals by trained personnel. However, testing blood samples only gives a snapshot of a person's health at one moment in time. In other words, it doesn't provide continuous monitoring. To address this issue, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀, PhD researcher Emma Moonen turned to another bodily fluid to solve the problem - sweat. She developed an innovative device that analyzes tiny amounts of 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. Monitoring contractions is essential to ensure the safety of the mother and unborn child during 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗯𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵. However, traditional monitoring techniques can be invasive or affected by maternal movements. Kirsten Thijssen's PhD thesis focused on measuring the electrical activity of the uterus using non-invasive electrohysterography and exploring its technological development and clinical implementation. In 2023, the 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 combining EHG with maternal and fetal electrocardiogram (ECG) was introduced. Currently, this system is being implemented across Europe for both intra- and extra-mural applications in obstetric care.
