Project details

We are building a new 54-bed mental health hospital for adults and older people on a site off Mount View Street, Bexhill-on-Sea.

This hospital will replace out-dated inpatient services currently based at the Department of Psychiatry next to Eastbourne District General Hospital.

We plan construction to be completed by the beginning of 2025.

The new hospital will remove out-dated dormitories, replacing shared wards with individual bedrooms ensuite bathrooms, and create capacity to meet any future inpatient needs.

It will provide a modern and improved therapeutic environment for patients, including shared therapy spaces, outside therapy gardens and fresh-cook food.

All of this means that we can attract and keep the best staff and offer excellent teaching and research opportunities for our doctors, nurses and other clinicians.

Keeping you informed

We will send out regular newsletters to keep you up-to-date on the latest news, site activity and progress of the build. We will deliver these to your home and they will be available online by clicking on the links below.

Supporting the community

We want to make sure that everyone can have their say throughout the construction phase, particularly those people living near the site, service users, carers and their families.

By listening to feedback and acting on it, we can continually improve how we involve local communities and other interested people.

We will be organising events and other activities, such as school and site visits, to not only raise awareness about the services to be provided by the new hospital but to also help create job placements and training opportunities across East Sussex.

To help achieve this, Kier has a policy to use local suppliers and workers where possible.
