Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For the month of January I will be taking the plunge and doing a cold water outdoor swim every day to raise money for Mind. A lot of young people have been struggling with their mental health recently, and it really brings it home when they are known to you, as it can affect the whole family.
I will be taking my daily dip mostly at home where we have a fresh water swim pond. At this time of year the temperature has bottomed out at around 4C, though it can go lower in a cold snap. The fun starts when you need to break the ice! I swim in a traditional swim-suit, wet-suit gloves plus warm hat. I will do a minimum of 3 laps in the winter [before the pain sets in!] 3 laps is approx 100m. It's not about distance in January!!
Then benefits of cold water swimming are many: it boosts your immune system, is good for mental health, good for depression, increases tolerance to stress, good for inflammation, good for circulation, makes you feel great!
