    Story

Sean Sandford, an Aston Old Edwardian, who was last season's 2nd XV player of the season, and who also represented both the Rugby Club and Cricket Club at 1st team level, sadly passed away on Wednesday 11th July, leaving a 3 year old son, Barnaby. Our thoughts are with Sean's family and friends at this tragic time.

Barnaby's dad was diagnosed with Grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma Primary Brain Cancer just a short while ago. On the morning of Wednesday the 11th of July, he suffered a seizure which lead to him being on life support and it was confirmed that there was nothing more that could be done.

A group of Aston Old Edwardians - Brian Hopkins, Gordon Loffman, Glyn Brazell, Neil Glasby & Helen Williams had already started to walk the length of Offa's Dyke - and we decided to see if we could raise some money to help Barnaby at the same time.

Offa's Dyke is a 177 mile walk from Prestatyn to Chepstow - and we are walking it in stages over the coming months - usually at weekends.

We'd be delighted if you can help us to raise some money to offer Barnaby and his family some support - all monies donated will go directly to the family, all expenses from the walk are covered by the 5 of us.

    Thank You

Day 14 - Brockweir to Sedbury Cliffs (8 miles) A relatively gentle end to the walk, with the inevitable hill right at the end. We were joined by Kim Furlong & Keith Thomas on the final leg, and joined by partners at the plinth indicating the end of the walk - who had brought along bubbly to help us celebrate. 177 miles completed, 4 falls, no fall-outs, great company, fantastic views, and our extended fundraising target almost met. Thanks to everyone The End !!!

Day 13 - The Hendre to Brockweir 14.5 miles, although somehow we ended up walking 16 An extended walk to give ourselves a gentle finish next week. 4 peaks to overcome, of which the last was particularly steep, and with recent rainfall and lots of leaves covering tracks, it was tricky going underfoot. We saw the first faller of the walk so far, which was immediately followed by the second, as Neil tried to stand up again. Overall a really nice walk A 4.30pm finish, just as it was getting dark - leaving just 8 miles to complete next week.

Day 12 - Pandy to The Hendre 12.5 miles The forecast was rain and sunny spells, but the first couple of hours were spent in pretty grey, dry conditions until we reached the White Castle. A 1/2 hour break, during which we observed the 2 minute silence were followed by hard stretches across completely mud filled fields - a poignant reminder of the battlefields of WW1. The rain came, followed by the sun, and steady progress was made before a final mudbath immediately before the final uphill stretch - what joy !! 2 days and 21 miles left
