Story
Thank you for offering a donation in memory of Fr Matthew Burns OSB.
Fr Matthew was a monk of Ampleforth for 60 years and 50 years a priest, including a time of parish ministry. Fr Matthew was a pupil, then teacher and Housemaster at Ampleforth College. He was also a regular pilgrim with the Ampleforth pilgrimage to Lourdes and a keen supporter of any cricket happening in the Ampleforth valley. Through his life he came into contact with many people who will remember his great warmth, his devotion to Our Lady to whom he entrusted himself and those he loved every night, as well as his love of wood work.
Care of the sick must rank above and before all else, so that they may truly be served as Christ, for he said: I was sick and you visited me ( Matt 25:36), and, What you did for one of these least brothers you did for me (Matt 25:40)." - Chapter 36, The Rule of St Benedict
In his final years Fr Matthew was resident in the Monastic Infirmary at Ampleforth Abbey, where it was possible for him to receive fantastic care and support to remain at home with his community to the end of his life. It is for this reason that all donations made in memory of Fr Matthew will go towards supporting the care of elderly and sick brethren, so that they too may remain with the community when the time comes for them to require care.
Suscipe me Domine, secundum eloquium tuum et vivam, et non confundas me ab expectatione mea.
The Suscipe is sung when a monk makes his Solemn Profession and at his funeral.
Thank you for remembering Fr Matthew by supporting his community.
