World Congress History

The IPA World Congress is the highlight of the year within the IPA's schedule, and it is where the entire IPA family gathers to review the events of the previous year, and also determine the future direction for the association. The World Congress is hosted by a different National Section every year and usually takes place over a 6 day period consisting of a 3 day long conference, as well as 2 meetings of the International Executive Board.

The main agenda of the World Congress deals with motions that are proposed by both National Sections and the International Executive Board, which are then voted on by the representatives of each Section, as well as the International Executive Board having a collective vote. A new International Executive Board is elected every 4 years.

The World Congress is a prestigious IPA event which has been hosted annually since the association's inception in 1955, when the IPA founder Arthur Troop and other early pioneers worked untiringly to form the foundations of other National Sections. The event has now been hosted in over 30 countries in 64 years, and IPA Croatia will be the hosts for the 64th IPA World Congress in 2019.
