Indian actor and director Farhan Akhtar is said to have flown to Bangkok to work on a new Marvel Studios project, according to local media reports.

The details of the project or of Akhtar’s role in it have not yet been revealed. However, it was previously announced that additional filming of Ms. Marvel, will be conducted in Thailand from March 2021.

A source told E Times: “Farhan is currently stationed in Bangkok, along with an international cast and crew, for the shoot of a project with Marvel Studios, who are known to be one of the biggest film studios worldwide.”

“All other details of the project are strictly under wraps,” they added.

However, when The Independent contacted Akhtar’s publicist, they said “they have no information on this project.”

Kamala Khan, or Ms. Marvel, is a fictional superhero appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. She has the ability to shift shape at will. Her character will be played by Iman Vellani.

India has been one of the fastest-growing markets for a range of Marvel Studios films. In 2019, Joe Russo visited the country to promote Marvel Cinematic Universe’s superhero blockbuster film Avengers: Endgame.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (Marvel Studios)

“It [India] is incredibly important. It is the fastest-growing market in the world for Marvel. It is so important that this is the first stop of the press tour for the film,” Russo said during an interview.

“There was a recording of an Indian audience watching Infinity War and the moment Thor lands, the cheers sounded like a football stadium. We used to play that recording whenever we would get tired (working) on Endgame because it took us two years to make that movie,” he added.

“We would just play that recording and get re-inspired. This response from the audience is why we make these movies. We know there is an exciting fanbase here.”

Akhtar has his film Toofan (storm)lined up to be released on Amazon Prime on 21 May. He is also known for his films Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (based on the life of legendary athlete Milkha Singh), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (you only live once), and The Sky is Pink alongside Priyanka Chopra.
