Social Security Scotland is now accepting applications for the new Adult Disability Payment

People are now able to apply for Social Security Scotland’s new benefit, the Adult Disability Payment (ADP).

The ADP is money which provides support for people with a disability or those with a long-term health condition with the extra costs they have in everyday life.

It replaces PIP (Personal Independence Payment) and the DLA (Disability Living Allowance) for adults in Scotland which were previously delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions.

The national rollout follows a successful pilot in 13 local authority areas.

People can apply if they:

• have a disability or long term health condition, or are terminally ill
• are 16 years old or over and have not yet reached State Pension age

It does not matter if they are working or not working, their income and any savings are not considered.

The new ADP is open for new applications only. People who already get Personal Independence Payment or Disability Living Allowance don’t need to apply.

Their benefits will start to be transferred to Social Security Scotland from 29 August. Social Security Scotland will contact people in advance.
