Covid certificate for travel (for people living in the Netherlands)

You no longer need a COVID Certificate for travel within the European Union. The temporary EU legislation governing the issuing of COVID Certificates has expired. As a result, the government is no longer issuing them.

If you are travelling to a country outside the EU, check the travel advice on testing requirements for your country of destination (netherlandsworldwide.nl - in Dutch) before you go to see if that country still has any rules regarding coronavirus. Sometimes you may need to provide an overview of your coronavirus vaccinations, a negative test result or proof of recovery.

Vaccination overview

If you have been using the CoronaCheck app, your testing and vaccination data will remain visible in the app until 31 December 2023 inclusive. If you downloaded and/or printed your COVID Certificate via CoronaCheck.nl before 1 July 2023, you can continue to use it for a year from the date you did this.

If you gave permission for your vaccination data to be registered, you can find an overview of your vaccinations on mijn.rivm.nl. This overview is not official proof of vaccination but is normally sufficient proof for travel.

You can also request a vaccination overview from the organisation that vaccinated you. This could be the municipal health service (GGD) or your doctor.

Negative test result

You may need a negative test result to travel.

First check the travel advice on testing requirements for your country of destination (netherlandsworldwide.nl - in Dutch). This will tell you:

  • if you do in fact require a test;
  • what test you need (NAAT(PCR) or rapid test);
  • how old the result can be when you enter the country.

You can make an appointment for a PCR or rapid antigen test at a commercial test centre of your choosing. You will need to pay the costs yourself. Testing via the GGD is no longer possible.

  • You’ll receive your test result by email or on paper.
  • Schedule your appointment in good time so that you have the result before you depart.

Proof of recovery

Proof of recovery is proof that you previously tested positive for coronavirus. If you have had coronavirus and want proof that you have since recovered, you can be tested by a commercial test provider and then receive proof of recovery if the test is positive. It is not possible to be tested by the GGD in order to obtain proof of recovery.
