Love Repaired

Attorney Amee sets aside her own needs to juggle the broken pieces of her life and family until mechanic Ben repairs her heart.

Divorce attorney Amee Benton—who has an ex of her own—is pretty sure she’s a #MomFail. Showing up late on a Friday night to retrieve her car from the shop and finding the pink frosted cupcakes she forgot to leave at her daughter’s ballet camp confirms it.

When mechanic, Ben Mathis, confesses to stealing one of the confections and asks who is taking care of Amee, she knows he’s a unicorn—a magical, beautiful beast who surely only exists in fantasies. And she tells him just that. With an f bomb for good measure.

Amee has three things Ben finds irresistible in a woman—brains, a family, and a serious potty mouth. At a chance run-in at Ben’s own personal hell, AKA the mall, he summons the courage to ask her out. Though Amee is leery of dating a younger man, and Ben is more than aware of their social gap, the two take a chance.

But Amee’s life isn’t like his. And when her ex returns and the doubting divorcée blunders, all of Ben’s insecurities are piqued anew. Now, Amee must prove to Ben his worth is much more than stand-in dad and rebound boyfriend or she’ll watch magic gallop off into the forest forever.

Guuuyyysss. Deana Birch has been one of those authors I’ve kept an eye on ever since her debut. I’ve read every book she’s written, and am constantly left with a smile on my face when I do. However, Love Repaired really, really hit it home for me. Out of all her novels, this is by far the cream of the crop. I adore how it shows her growing as an author, and it makes me love her even more!

This story was packed with heart. Amee, a divorced single mom with one helluva crappy ex-husband, is spunky and finally ready to give herself what she deserves. Someone to love who wants to reciprocate in the taking-care-of department—something she’s been sorely lacking. But when she stumbles upon a magical unicorn who has absolutely no right to exist in the real world, she finds everything she’s been looking for… and much, much more.

Ben was one of those male leads who grabs a gal by the ovaries from the get-go. He’s big, burly, and sexy, but also kind-hearted, loves children, and is looking for the total package—a family—not just insta-gratification and a fling. He isn’t afraid of commitment, but he is scared of being an albatross around too-good-for-the-likes-of-him Amee’s neck. (Which, we all know there ain’t no way a mythical beast like Ben could ever possibly be not-good-enough for anyone, but his modesty and focus on doing only what’s best for those around him is admirable and only makes you want to squeeze him all the harder.)

This was a delightful contemporary romance with all the right feels in all the right places. It kept me engaged and wanting more with every chapter I turned, and the adorable supporting cast (most of whom fall under the age of 9) will have you grinning. Especially when you see how epic and perfect Ben is with them all—even the surly ones.

I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good, heartfelt romance—especially one where there’s already a family in the picture. If your cuppa is seeing love interests fall not only for the parent, but the child(ren) too? Then this is absolutely for you.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading this book. It’s a beautiful love story between two imperfect people trying to overcome their limitations and emotional baggage. The way their relationship unfolds and the way we get to know each of them individually and as a couple is a moving journey. I found this book intense while at the same time filled with humorous moments. I have to say that by far, my favorite proposal /engagement scene from any book I’ve ever read, is in this epilogue. My thanks to Deana Birch for writing such a fabulous story.

I loved this book! This was my experience with this author but definitely won’t be my last. Amee and Ben, 2 imperfect people that were really perfect for each other. Unfortunately they are both their own worst enemies AND both have some heavy baggage.
There are a few things that I didn’t like about the book but the things that I loved totally make up for those tenfold. For example, Amee has 2 daughters, Carly and Shae. That darn Shae is glitter personified!!
And Ben is sweet and honorable. Aimee’s sister Jude is another favorite character of mine.
This is a must read!!! I can’t wait to dive into more books from this author!

Three and a half stars.

Amee is a divorce lawyer and is herself a divorced mother of two daughters. Shortly after her divorce her husband drove drunk and killed a man, now he's in prison. Now she feels like she is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Matters peak when she collects her car from the mechanic at the end of the day only to find the cupcakes she was supposed to give to her daughter's ballet camp are sitting on the passenger seat where she left them first thing in the morning.

Ben is the young, ripped mechanic who fixed Amee's car, he also ate one of the cupcakes - hey they looked amazing and Fridays are his cheat day when he can eat carbs. Amee can't believe this gorgeous guy is so kind, cares for his nephew, listens so well and sympathises with her, so much so that she nicknames him a unicorn (trust me that gets old really fast) and Ben nicknames her cupcake.

But aside from rampant lust can there be anything real between them given their age, income, professional and educational differences? Ben doesn't want this to be just a one-night stand, he's over that, he's looking for a wife and a family and he won't settle for less so he refuses to give into their animal attraction, forcing Amee to woo him.

This was a cute romantic comedy. There was a little too much repetition of unicorn and cupcake for my tastes and most of the female characters seemed a little overdrawn, too loud, too potty-mouthed, failing at life. Now while it's refreshing to have a wealthy successful professional career woman who is also a successful mother be the heroine in a novel, it did feel like she was the one who did everything wrong and Ben was (I'm gonna go there) the Unicorn that could do nothing wrong. It seems like sometimes women just don't want other women to have it all. Anyway, it's way early in the morning and this is straying wilding off-topic.

The star of this book is the cutest moppet ever, Amee's youngest daughter Shae, she deserves a star all to herself, with a vocabulary beyond her years and her huge collection of dolls she is a delight on the page.

If you love an opposites attract, tables are turned romance then this is the one for you.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Love Repaired is a tasty little May/December gender bendy romance with a frazzled, but fierce leading lady who is just as tempted by the unicorn mechanic that happens to stay late enough that she can pick up her car as he is by the pink frosted cupcakes she forgot on the passenger's seat when she dropped it off that morning. Yeah, our Ben totally pilfers one of those confectionery goodies. But it's all good it's his cheat day.

What? You think a body of that level of chiseled perfection comes from eating brownies and hot dogs?

Amee isn't just older than Ben. She is OLDER than Ben. Not chronologically speaking, but mentally and emotionally because this woman has been through it. She has an ex-husband in prison (oh yeah, it's that deep), two daughters who are hurt by both the divorce and their father's absence, and a demanding career as a cutthroat attorney. Hard enough for any woman to achieve success in that world, much less a single mom. When her #MomFail moments happen, she is harder on herself than any outside source is.

But that is where her magical unicorn comes in.

Ben not only manages to build Amee's confidence to a level where it hasn't been in years, he gives her time to decompress. Time where she isn't the mom carrying it all or the lawyer ripping the opposition to shreds. He gives her moments to breathe and just be Amee. Exactly what she needs.

But life is never that easy, even when you have a magical creature in your life. Between disparities in income, family drama, and questionable levels of commitment, Ben and Amee have mountains in front of them that they must overcome in order to reach their happily ever after.

The characters in “Love Repaired”, by Deana Birch, have substance, aren’t stereotypical and are refreshingly different from the regular protagonists in romance novels.
Ben is a fabulous Beta hero, strong, sweet, dimpled, a hot mechanic struggling with economical problems and eager for affection. He’s a darling both with the heroine and with little people. It’s great to have a hero with issues about self-confidence and self-worth. The fact that he’s the one with reservations about instant sex makes him even more attractive.
Amee is a take no prisoners lawyer with a potty mouth. Her family is interesting and well developed, the issues involving her ex-husband realistic and well handled.
Ben and Amee’s relationship isn’t easy but I loved watch them working through their problems and hurdles.
I thought the story dragged a bit and there were too much sex scenes, but I found it really enjoyable.

Meet single mom Amee and her two adorable daughter.
Then add in her sister and her ex-husband.
That there is Ben. Ben lives with his uncle, his cousin and her son.

These two meet when Amee is late to pick up her car from being fixed. Practically love at first sight. I really enjoyed how Amee was an older lady.
Loved this one!
Such a sweet story!

I enjoyed this very much! Amee is a single mom (as I have been, and she is very believable to me) and meets cute-but-young mechanic Ben who I adored. I appreciated Amee wasn't squeaky-clean and dull--her vibrancy was unmistakable and her quirks reminded me of some of my favorite girlfriends (who yes, also have potty mouths, and that doesn't bother me in the slightest). Ben was magical and darling and not without flaws, so I was ready for the HEA that they all ended up getting. Loved it, and love Deana Birch's voice! Will be looking for more from her!

Thanks NetGalley for providing the e-book. Opinions are my own.

This was such a fantastic read. I absolutely adored the characters, especially their unique personalities. The heroine had a special level of spunk that just rocked my readerly world.

I'd highly recommend this to any contemporary romance fan who adores May/December romances... especially when they're gender-bending! Who doesn't love to see a fierce older woman get her hot younger man??

I absolutely loved this book. Amee and Ben are adorable, and their story is so much more complex than I was anticipating. Amee is a hot-shot lawyer dealing with divorce, single parenthood, and feeling like she’s enough. Ben’s a mechanic dealing with family drama, some growing pains, and also feeling like he’s enough. Together, they bring a lot of complications to the table - but love always finds a way, as they say.

I think I loved this story so much because Amee reminds me of me. While I’m not a hot shot lawyer, I’m a single mom who is currently less than a year out from her own divorce. I could relate to Amee’s struggle of balancing life, work, kids, and dating. I could relate to her emotional struggles, her feelings of inadequacy, but also bucking up and getting it done when something needed to get done. I enjoyed her character and seeing her grow into the woman she could always be.

Ben is one of my favorite leading men that I’ve read this year. He’s kind, sensitive, stubborn, loyal, and super hot. He wants - and deserves - more, and the book equally focuses on both Amee’s growth as well as his. Bens story nearly breaks my heart at some points, but I was glad to get so much of his own story in this book. I think Deana did a great job of sharing both stories and twisting them together into this book.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this book and all of the characters in it. I couldn’t put it down.

I was provided an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through Booksprouts arc.

Amee was having a horrible day starting with work then didn’t bring the cupcakes to her daughters camp. She goes to pick up her car where she meets Ben. Nate and Ben went to the mall to get his shirts for his new school. Ben runs into Amee at the mall they both were buying the shirts for the new school. Ben asks Amee out to coffee and she accepted. Ben and Amee have a lot of baggage on both sides. Ben also was insecure about him being enough for her. She was thinking about that she was older than him. Ben and Amee are getting to know each other better. Amy’s ex was getting out if jail and he had to stay at her place. Amee was adamant that he was to leave by the end of the week. Amee screwed up bad this time and really hurt Ben. Meanwhile her ex was still giving her problems until she finally told him it will never ever be together. Twists, Turns, misunderstandings, heartbreak and love.

This is a fabulous, contemporary story with a capital "C." It's a modern love story between two flawed leads with tons of baggage who are still charming and lovable. And the chemistry is lovely.

Even better, there are kids in the story that are realistic and don't detract, but instead add dimension and depth to the realism and the conflict and the relationship. I adore how we have a divorced woman who is able to move on but also has to deal with her ex in a realistic way instead of having him just disappear. It makes the book special and lets it's readers see a real, modern HEA can happen.

The writing was lovely and the plot perfectly balanced. It was just a really great read.

Amee is a family law lawyer, and has an uncomfortable divorce of her own in her past. Worse, her ex husband is in prison for vehicular manslaughter . Her girls had to face that their daddy killed someone else’s daddy. Pete would be out in 3 years or less, but that other daddy would never get to go home.

She met sexy mechanic Ben when she was late picking up her fancy car for repairs. And he confessed to eating one of the cupcakes she had forgotten and left in the car. A saucy match made in frosting.

Ben is unafraid of her crazy family situation. But he wants to be seen as more than a dark secret fling. Naturally, Amee blows it - more than once, and says little to or about him in front of the other moms. She says she is just bruised from all the gossip the girls suffered because of their dad. She has no idea what it feels like to be treated as worthy only for meaningless things.

Maybe Amee blew all her chances. Maybe Ben loves her and her girls enough to give them a third chance.

Steamy and sweet, messy romance.

This book follows the relationship of Amee who is a successful divorce lawyer with two daughters and divorced herself and Ben is her much younger mechanic who is in a different social class. They have a strong chemistry between them but she wants a physical relationship while he wants a relationship in every aspect. Enjoyed reading how their relationship developed and they worked through their differences.

A wonderful book with a great heroine and hero. The hero, Ben, is such a sweetheart or unicorn as our heroine calls him. He's sweet, thoughtful, and nearly perfect. Our heroine is winning at her professional life but her personal life is really a train wreck. But, man she is trying to reclaim some normalcy and Ben is just the guy to tag along on this journey of hers. The story has a lot of threads but life is messy and I appreciated how the author weaved everything together. Highly recommend.

In most May/December books the male is always the older of the two. He’s also the one settled in his career and making good money. Basically he is the one that has his life together when the younger, sexy lady comes along and falls in love. Folks, Deana Birch took that and flipped it on its ear! AND I LOVED IT.

Amee is a single mother and successful lawyer. She has the house, the fancy car and disposable income. Ben is a mechanic at her high end dealership. He lives in the basement his uncle’s house and is trying to make things better for himself, but it’s a struggle. In the age where “alpha male” seems to be king, Ben is a refreshing change.

And that’s not to say Amee isn’t without her own set of struggles. There is an ex whose name I won’t mention but wished for all the bad things to happen to him. LOL Plus being a single mom is freaking hard! Been there, done that. Dating as a single parent presents different challenges because there are the kids to consider. Amee stumbles during this process. She makes mistakes, there are communication issues as she stumbles her way into new love.

Ben and Amee complement each other in this regard. He’s a sweet guy that wants to do right, but he’s not without his faults. They have their ups and downs. And if you’ve read enough of my reviews you’ll know the biggest pet peeve I have is that age old miscommunication thing which tends to happen in romance. It adds tension, but boy oh boy does it make me what to shake the characters and scream at them to just spit it out already. LOL

Aside from that, I adore the well rounded-ness of the cast of characters. It’s not just Amee and Ben, but we get to see Amee’s girls. Her funny sister who I adored! Oh and yeah the ex. Ben shows his soft side when you see him with his nephew and even in how he covers for his sister who is having her own struggles with getting her life together after a devastating loss.

The romance is sweet and the sex scenes are hot. Don’t let the cover fool ya, there is some heat between these pages. Another thing Deana does well, showing sex positive and sexually confident women. If these things sound good to you, I recommend you grab a copy.

I've been in a bit of a book funk. I don't know what the deal is. Maybe too many books? I know, you're thinking, "Brittany, you crazy wench, you're A Bit Smutty Book Blog, you're all about the books and all the bookish things." But it's the truth, I open a book, and I just feel, meh.
So another book friend of mine said to me, "Girl, you gotta read Love Repaired by Deana Birch. It's real adults with real jobs and real-life, and it's a reverse age gap." So, because my friend is super smart, I bought it.
Okay, before I get into the book, let me recap. I am in a book FUNK, so I started this book, and it's awesome, but because I'm so far in my funk, I can't just sit down and binge the thing. I start slow, sort of like a virgin, and take a little at a time to get myself going.
I don't know that I can say I am out of my book funk, but Love Repaired did NOT become one of its victims. For the story to be about a character so different from myself, the authenticity that Deana writes Amee made me feel instantly connected. Amee is a single Mom with two girls, an ex-husband in prison for involuntary manslaughter and an amazing sister. She's trying to navigate this new life when she meets hot, young, mechanic Ben. Now don't go there on me, I know that hot, young, mechanic sounds super cliche, but Ben is ANYTHING but cliche.
I loved that the story has a little role reversal with Ben not looking for a one night stand and Amee, coming off like a cougar, though she is far from that. The story navigates Amee's insecurities beautifully with not only herself but with how others will see her and see her children if she dates Ben. Also, Ben is such a unicorn hero, still being an alpha male but very open with himself about his insecurities and faults. The two don't have an easy go of finding their way together, but it's just imperfectly charming in so many ways.
I am so glad that I took this book recommendation from my friend, and hope to have more of Deana Birch writing in my future, book funks be damned!

What can I say about this beautiful book apart from - I fell in love with it from page one. I adored each and every character. I laughed out loud, I cried, my heart melted and whilst I couldn't put this book down, I didn't want it to end either. Amee meets Ben who she nicknames The Unicorn for reasons that will become obvious when you read this book. Their relationship was simply divine. Smart, sweet, genuine and real, Deana Birch writes sublimely. Just as Amee and Ben fell in love, so did I. With Shae, aka Sparkle Pants. With Jude, Amee's lesbian sister and Tinder ho. With Carly, quiet but beautifully understated. By far my favourite read this year, I was left with the warmest, fuzziest feeling inside as I turned the last page. I read this on a rainy, grey day and it brought so much sunshine into my life. Deana Birch, your writing is pithy, and heartfelt and I want to thank you for making me smile from ear to ear. And the intimate scenes were written so well - nothing cringey or sappy, just hot hot hot!! For anyone who likes a love story with an edge, this is for you!

Love Repaired is the story about a divorced mother of two and a much younger mechanic trying to find their happily ever after. Amee was sometimes a hard character to like. She seemed very self-centered at times and I didn't understand some of the things she said and did. Ben was a much more likable character and one that I highly enjoyed reading from. Since this book is written in both of their perspectives, we get a look inside both of their heads.

Like I said, Amee just wasn't really cup of tea. At first I thought I was going to like her because she just sorta said what was on her mind and threw in a few curse words to emphasize her feelings. However, her lack of empathy kind of ruined her character for me. She'd be so hot for Ben one moment, and then would clam up and pretend they didn't know each other when out in public. I just wish her character had a bit more backbone and didn't treat Ben like a side piece.

Ben was a great guy. Which is why I think Amee rubbed me the wrong way. He's sweet, respectful, genuinely cares for people, and would do anything for his friends and family. Heck, the guy even stepped up to help raise his cousin's son while she went through a rough patch in life. What does he get for it? A girlfriend who seems almost embarrassed by him, a family who views him as disposable, and pretty much a ton of people looking down on him. So, yeah, when Amee starts her wishy-washy bull crap, I was fed up for him. I loved that he connected with her youngest daughter and they had a bond that no one could break, however, I felt like Amee wasn't good enough for him.

I enjoyed my time with this story. I do wish that Amee and Ben had a bit more chemistry. I felt like Ben and Shae (Amee's daughter) had more of a solid connection. However, I still liked the story as a whole. While I may not have overly liked the heroine, you can't like them all, and her flaws made her more human.

It all started with a broken down Porsche and a stolen cupcake. That is how Amee Benton met her unicorn, Ben.

Amee has a successful career as a lawyer and does well for herself. Her life as of the past year, has not been a good one. He ex husband went to jail for vehicular manslaughter and her daughters were bullied because of it. Amee has not taken care of herself and has suffered for it.

Ben wants a better life. He is a great guy, who works hard as a mechanic, attends night school and helps take care of his cousins son. He only wants to find a family and love. He is sexy as sin and sweet as can be. He scrapes to get by and sometimes lacks the confidence in himself to achieve his goals.

Everything changes for these two the day they meet. It is an instant attraction from the start. Ben wants to build a relationship, but Amee has hard time accepting it. She constantly worries about what others think and sometimes screws up. Everything gets worse when her ex Peter gets out of jail.

Will Ben and Amee make it? Or will Amee let the social differences get in the way?

Ben and Amee’s story is wonderful and inspiring. They really have lots of challenges to overcome throughout the book. Challenges that most divorcee woman suffer and deal with in real life. This adds a touch of reality to a fictional story. The book is easily relateable and the story flows nicely.

The characters in this book really do make it come alive. Especially Amee’s daughter Shae. She is such a glittery delight. The things she says cracks me up. Like all children her age, she tells it like it is and says the darnedest things.

If you like a love story that proves there is love after heartbreak and that families can survive divorce, then this book is for you. An inspiring read full of amazing and wonderful characters. This book is sure to be a soul reaching story. So pick up your copy today.

This is a story of a cupcake and a unicorn.Just like a cupcake,Amee brings sweetness and flavours to Ben’s life and like a unicorn he saves her from the world .She was a successful divorce attorney ,divorced and mother of two.And he was a mechanic, homeless and 9 years younger than her.But from the very first time they had laid eyes on each other, they had seen a irresistible fire in them. While he found her smart with a potty mouth, she was drawn to his sexy body and cute dimples.Like a gentleman, when Ben asked her out,she just couldn’t say no.Though soon after they started dating, they realised that they belonged to different worlds and would have to work really hard to bridge this gap. While dealing with their issues, they faced a lot of problems and also broke up once. But the one thing that brought them back together and stronger every time was unconditional love.
I really liked the book.I loved the relationship Ben had with Nate and Shae.It is beautifully written and is full of great and steamy romance.

This one didn't do it for me. I will admit that I am more of a fan of historical romance than contemporary, though I have been reading more modern romances this year. As swearing is often nonexistent or very minimal in historicals, I'm often surprised at the level of profanity in many of these contemporary romances. I know the blurb did warn about it, but the story sounded interesting enough that I thought I'd give it a try. However, the constant f-bombs and other crude words overwhelmed what could have been an interesting story about an overstressed mom and a hot younger man.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Amee is a divorce attorney with an ex-husband and a daughter she feels like she's failing to be a good mom to most of the time. She forgets cupcakes in her car that were for her daughter's class. Ben is a mechanic and takes one of those cupcakes while working on Amee's car. The couple are imperfect people just trying to make it in a crazy world. Amee has a penchant for swearing and is smart, two things Ben finds highly attractive in a woman. Ben is sexy, in good shape, younger, and a sweetheart. After a meeting at the mall, the two go on a date and things get steamy. Will Amee's ex cause trouble and hurt the budding relationship? A cute read that I recommend if you don't mind f-bombs, which I don't think detracts from the story.

Amee, a divorce attorney is trying to make her own way in life. A divorced mother of two, with her ex husband in jail, Amee finally decides it is time she was happy. Cue Ben, her mechanic. They get together and things get serious.

Will the couple be able to make things work? Amee is older than Ben and is more financially stable. On top of that, Amee's ex-husband is released from prison and Ben is kicked out of his house and needs to find somewhere new to stay.

This book was okay though I didn't really feel like I connected with either Amee or Ben. The way Amee spoke was brash, perhaps a bit too much. It was a quick read though and you knew there would be a happy ending.

A fun and entertaining romantic read. The characters and story line grab your attention and hold it throughout the book. Add a bit of drama, some emotions and you have a pretty good romance to read. A different take on a story line with divorce, a working mom and an age difference where the woman is older was a nice change up and makes if read more like real life.

This is the first book I have read by this author and it is a good romance that grabs your attention from the very beginning to the end. Amee and Mathis attractions was strong and their chemistry generated lots of sparks. The storyline was engaging and fun read that offers a solid amount of drama, mystery and emotional turmoil as these couples relationship evolves into more than they ever imagined.
