He was football royalty. Legendary quarterback. A champion.

Reiner Strickland had led his team to three national championships and playing a knight in shining armor was all in a days work for the NFL star quarterback. Reiner refuses to let Jada go. He’ll have to dig deep and call out the most important play of his life to ensure that Jada Dalton remains on his team.

Would a famous athlete really have sex without a condom with a woman he just met? I don't think so.

Can a famous athlete really have any woman he wants? No.

Here's why:
Not every woman is ...

-a groupie or gold-digger interested in separating famous and/or rich men from their money.
-interested in living her life in the spotlight and being scrutinized and torn apart by the media and strangers.
-a yes woman or a man-pleaser to the detriment of who she is as a person.
-wants to worry about what her famous athlete boyfriend is doing after they've had an argument and he's (feeling vulnerable and lonely) on the road at an away game.
-wants to worry about the women who really are groupies and gold-diggers that are willing to grant your famous athlete boyfriend -- anything he wants, anyway he wants it, when he wants it.
-a Republican! (okay, I threw this one in for laughs). On second thought, maybe she's Democrat!

And no, she's not a man-hating lesbian. Some women simply don't want the drama that comes along with the lifestyle of the rich or famous. And no, she's not pretending. She's really doesn't know you because she doesn't follow the entertainment industry or know what you had for lunch yesterday ... or care.

Now ... on to the heroes mother ... seriously, her thinking was so archaic I had to check the timeline of the story. Her eventual explanation of something that happened nearly 60 years ago didn't move me. Interracial dating and marriage is quite different for celebrities. In some respect, they live in a bubble and are shielded from some of things that happen to everyday couples in public. We've come a long way in some respects, but we still have a ways to go. It can get better, but we have to make the effort to make it better.

Please don't laugh - but I had to google BWWM because I didn't know what it meant. I'm not really sure why this needs to be acknowledged, but that's besides the point.

Jada Dalton's car breaks down on a rainy evening, and she is rescued by a beautiful, large man named Reiner. Reiner stays with Jada until the tow truck comes for her, which is a few hours later. Unfortunately, they don't exchange numbers and both regret it.

Fast forward one week and Jada is asked by her best friend Trissa to attend a charity event where NFL players will be auctioned for charity. Imagine Jada's surprise when she runs into Reiner again and discovers that he's a star quarterback. Reiner asks Jada to bid on him in the auction, with his money of course, and she wins. Reiner decides he's not leaving the event without Jada's number.

It wasn't really clear how old Jada was - but there was an element to this story that I didn't love, but I won't spoil it. I just found it hard to believe.

Reiner was the sweetest guy. I'm a firm believer that when you meet "the one", you know, and that proved true for Reiner. He felt a strong pull to Jada immediately. He was a true gentleman, and whisked her away for an overnight trip as her "prize" for winning him in the auction.

I liked Jada. She was a strong woman who was focused on her business. She came from a strong family. I didn't like a storyline involving Reiner's mom however. It had a nice resolution but I don't think it was really necessary.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. It's pretty short - I read in one day. I would recommend this one.

Enjoyable Goodread!

Loved this couple:Reiner and Jada! So glad Reiner's mother, Erna Strickland came around and accepted Jada because Reiner was so right the way he handled his mother!

Reiner's mother story about losing her best friend during the civil rights movement was heartbreaking!

This book had me at the first half...

I was intrigued by the story and even got into it but then it didn't really go anywhere and it was just trope after trope. The virgin heroine. The white mother in law who seems racist but is just worried about the perception of an interracial relationship between her son and the woman he loves. Insta-love which is followed by pregnancy. Rolls eyes.

It was the part where the mother explained that ever since she fought for civil rights in the 60s and witnessed what happened to a black man and a white woman who fell in love in their fight for social justice (it didn't end well), she became wary of interracial relationships. And the way heroine ate up the star-crossed lovers while marching with MLK story.

This story wasn't for me.

An interracial love story that captivates you from the beginning. Reiner is wealthy, handsome, single and NFL royalty. He’s the best quarterback in the league. Jada is beautiful, hard working owner of her own hair salon that is determined to put her business on the map. They meet in the weirdest way and Reiner knew he just had to have this woman. He knew that she was different from all the other women who approaches him because she had no idea who he was and was rather shy. Jada thinks he’s gorgeous but thinks she’s out of his league. Surprisingly they part that night without exchanging numbers.

Couple days later they meet unexpectedly again and Reiner was determined to make his move. He said meeting her again was faith and meant she was going to be his. Reiner never saw color or financial status he only saw the beauty in front of him. Jada after finding out who he really was also didn’t see color or financial status.

Reiner pulled out all stops wooing her and she went with the flow. What I loved about Reiner is that he didn’t allow anyone to even try and disrespect Jada or try to cause friction in their relationship because of her race. He was not going to let anyone scare away the best thing that ever happened to him. Jada was a bit hesitant but also didn’t allow negativity interfere their relationship especially after seeing how protective Reiner was with her.

I would love to read more on this couple.

***ARC Review***

Reiner “The General” Strickland is a Texas rancher’s son turned star quarterback. He’s in his thirties, which makes him a veteran in the sport. He lives for his family, friends, love of football and the want to fill his house with a wife and kids.

Jada Dalton is beauty salon owner, who is hoping soon that her salon will become the IT place to get your hair done. She battles with her insecurities as being a curvy woman who finds herself lacking when it comes to being attractive to the opposite sex.

The two have their first encounter when Jada’s car breaks down on the side of the road one night. Reiner being a man raised with manners not to leave a damsel in distress on the side of the road sits and waits with Jada for roadside assistance. They spend two hours together learning about one another and the fact Jada has no clue who he really is, is enlightening to Reiner. They part ways thinking neither will see the other again as they forgot to exchange numbers or the personal tidbits of where they work.

Chime in a few weeks later and they have their second encounter at a charity auction. They reconnect and spend some time together, but it isn’t too long before they’re being judged for being in an interracial relationship.

Between Reiner’s mother being standoffish about his relationship with a woman of color and the media’s portrayal of Jada, the seed of doubt is placed in Jada’s mind about how being with her, Reiner will be ruining his career as well as his future aspirations.

This story is told in dual POV’s. Jada’s no push over and Reiner is just what she needs to clear the doubt. If you love an epilogue that gives you a look into the future, this book will make you happy.

Must read.

What I loved: I liked how Reiner(H) told his mom that he was dating Jada(h) and not to make him choose. He really was all in and a nice hero.

What I didn’t like: That there was no discussion about STDs before they even had sex especially since they used no protection. Yeah she was a virgin but he wasn’t and she says she seen him with other women in the papers. Also, again no discussion about birth control until the second time and we really didn’t get the conversation between the two about it until later in an afterthought.

**Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: Interracial romance, H’s mom disapproves. H is a professional football player and h owns her own salon. h’s car breaks down on the side of the road and the H spots her and pulls over to see if she needs help. They wait in the H’s car for the tow truck to come because it is raining. They both feel an instant attraction. h doesn’t know who the H is. Later, when the h’s best friend drags her to a charity event, the h sees the H. H is being auctioned off to raise money and he asks the h to bid on him (with his money). h agrees and this time they exchange numbers. When his mom sees pictures of the event and sees that the h is African American, she tells the son that he should not get involved with her. H tells his mom that he is a big boy now and he can date whoever he wants, screw what people think. The H and h talk on the phone and the H plans a getaway. They go to his parents house so he can show her where he grew up. When his parents come home early he introduces her. H’s mom is stand offish and h can sense that she doesn’t like her. H goes to talks to his mom and again tells her that he likes the h. h tells the H that she can sense that the mom doesn’t like her and H tells her that he likes her and to not worry about his mom. When they get back the h sees herself with the H on a gossip site and they aren’t saying nice things. H when he is done with practice sees it and runs to the h. h was going to ends things but the H tells her that she is his and not to worry about what others say. Later, h finds out she is pregnant. When H tells his mom, he tells her she can either accept the h or he won’t be around, to not make him choose. H’s mom goes to the h’s salon to talk to her. She tells her about her friend who was in love with an African American man and when they were protesting her friend jumped in front of a bullet saving the guy she loved. She apologizes to the h. HEA with the h having the baby with all the family members together and the H proposing to the h.

Final thoughts: This was my first time reading this author and this was an ok read for me. I will have to take a look to see what other books they have, especially if they are quick reads.

This felt too rush, the racial issue was pointless angst and they barely spent a few hours together in a span of two months and they're irreparably in love.

This is a very sweet story with easily resolved issues. Jada and Reiner have a chance meeting when her car decided to play cupid and break down late at night. Reiner stopped to offer assistance. After spending two hours in the cab of Reiner’s truck while she waited for roadside assistance they talked about family and their many shared similarities. Since Jada is not a big football buff she did not recognize Reiner as the football legend he is. The two didn’t exchange numbers and both regretted it. Another chance meet up and they rectify that issue.

Jada is trying to get her hair salon off the ground and Reiner is contemplating what he will need to do with his future once he’s not able to play football anymore. These two have that instant chemistry happening. Once Jada finds out who he is she is a bit nervous given their racial differences, Reiner doesn’t care and he pursues her.

You get to know some of their family members and a little bit about what their lives are like. If you are looking for football stats or anything really sports like you wont find it. If you are looking for some tips on hair care you won’t find that either. You get a surface view of their lives without too much angst.

If you are looking for a feel good story with quick resolution then this is it. The author does a nice job of making you care quickly about the characters, a bit more depth would have been nice but you can easily work around it.

This is a quick read that brought me back to one of my fave old tropes: bwwm.
I don't read it as much anymore because most I encounter don't have a good enough plot, may rely on the insecurity in the BW character as a conflict (which I do not like), or may feature sex between the couple, where contrasts and certain characteristics may be over-sexualized.

Yet in this one, everything was mild. The heroine, Jada, was not insecure, and she was not over-sexualized, though contrasts were mentioned briefly, and racial perception did play a part in the conflict, but not in the way that I initially assumed upon first impression when the conflict arose.

Jada's man is Reiner, who is a big southern boy, with an accent.
Meagan good GIF - Pesquisar em GIFER
Yum.

Reiner goes all-in once he realizes the extent to his feelings for Jada. He's protective and his alpha rides subtly underneath (with a little dirty talk 😉). Yet the story is short and the plot is thin; it is plot that could have easily been expanded with the burgeoning characterization of the couple and some secondaries. However, the author did not take it there and instead, kept this couple in a very cliched but endearing HEA, IMO.

Happy Reading.

Well this was super cute.

You guys already know I am a sucker for sports romances,  so when I found out that this release was a sports romance AND involved a biracial couple? I just had to read it, and boy did I fly through this book.

Hard Love is a super quick, swoon worthy story about a determined entrepreneur, Jada, and a famous quarterback, Reiner, who have a unforgettable chance encounter when Jada's car breaks down on the side of the road. Told in dual POV, the story surrounds the couple and the quick beginning of their relationship as they navigate through paparazzi and racial discrimination.

I really enjoyed the characters and how Banks interweaves racial issues of our current times into the story-line. Jada and her best friend Tessa are probably my favorite out of everyone; from their witty humor to their determination to make things work, I found myself smiling and giggling alongside them throughout my time reading.

However, as always with short books, I really just wished there was more! I felt like we could have gotten so much more character development between Reiner and Jada--get to fall in love with them as they fell in love with each other-- as well as more tension between Jada and the Mom if there was just more. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy my time reading this story, but hot damn I'd be lying if I didn't say I felt like things went by super quickly and super easily throughout the story because of how small the book is.

Yet for how short it is, I did have a really good time reading Jada and Reiner's story, albeit being super quick, it was also super cute and super romantic. With great romance and a swoon worthy Hero, I give this 3 stars.

This was a cute really fast read ... honestly I'm not sure if I listened to it 2x by midnight or not so we'll just call it the 12th for the 2nd finish

I love me some sportsball but this ... had very little to do with it. I mean the whole audiobook was only like 3 hours? [A little over?] So there is that.

The thing is Reiner's mom. oof. It ... I mean ...

Big eyeroll to Jada being a virgin/as "a problem" ... and Reiner "growling" all the time 🙄 but otherwise very cute.
Not so sold on the paparazzi following them around but whatever. Maybe.

The kiss at the charity auction though definitely was OTT.
I'd read the stories about the friends.

When you meet the right person, you know it immediately. This is the case for Reiner and Jada. Reiner helped out Jada when her car broke down, and he offered to let her sit in his truck til help arrived. They did not exchange phone numbers, but another unexpected meeting brings them together. And their fun begins. Peyton Banks has fashioned a romance between these two that will make your heart sing. Reiner is a wonderful man, almost too good to be true, especially with his fame and fortune. Jada is a young, entrepreneur, and seamlessly fits into his world. They do not let the fact they are different races interfere with their love. But will everyone? A little controversy, but Banks resolves all the issues with grace, even integrates a little history into the plot. If you are looking for a sweet, fun sports romance, this is one you will not want to miss!

Narrated by Lacy Laurel, the story comes to life. She uses her talent, giving us a Texas twang for Reiner and a confident, yet vulnerable voice for Jada. She continually impresses me with her vast array of voices. Even though this is short, there are a lot of characters, various ages and she nails all of them, right down to Reiner's mom! She always gives an enjoyable performance.

Hard Love was a quick & sexy read with a side of angst & football thrown in for good measure by the talented Peyton Banks that I wished had been longer. See, Reiner Strickland is the best QB out there in the NFL, when he spots Jada Dalton stranded on the side of the road, in the rain one night. He stops to help her, and quickly figures out that she doesn't recognize him. Neither gets the others digits for whatever reason, but fate has other plans, so they meet again at a charity event. And this time, Reiner isn't letting her go without her number & a date. These two had crazy hot chemistry from the get go, which ignites into sexy times that lit the sheets on fire. However, being of different races, the drama factor is intense to their new relationship since he's in the limelight, even though it shouldn't be in this day & age. Unfortunately it is, so Ms. Banks writes it with a realistic tone, and grace, not to mention, in my eyes, the Strickland family (not all the drama) sounded like the Manning family but that could just be me (wink wink). I enjoyed this story a ton, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This was a little gem to be blessed to get have the opportunity to read. I loved the synopsis of the book and it instantaneously made me want to grab it and review it. There is something about sports romance novels that does it for me, and Reiner Strickland was one of those characters who did not disappoint. I loved the fact that he meets Jada when she is most vulnerable and I also loved the fact that she had no clue who he was .... which could totally be me ... I would not know that somebody is legend in the sport they play ... which makes it that much more real.

My one critique of the book is that I felt it moved to quickly and that I felt like I wanted more. I think that Peyton Banks could have elaborated more on the story, have the characters get to know each other more and maybe elaborate a bit more. However, the story line itself was quite enjoyable and I was glad that I read it. If you are looking for something that is a quick, light read, and you enjoy sports romance novels, then Hard Love is the book for you. Make sure you add it to your To-Be-Read Shelf.

Jada is just living her life, trying to do her best in life when her car breaks down in the middle of a downpour.

Reiner is a famous quarterback who grew up in Texas and knows better than to leave a woman stranded on the side of the road in the pouring rain. When he stops to help Jada he realizes she has no idea who he is and loves it! They wait together for the tow truck to arrive and then part ways. Kicking himself he wishes he asked for her phone number. Jada feels the same way but was too afraid to get rejected by this amazing guy who was willing to stop and help her out.

Through a chance meeting again Reiner knows he can't let her go this time and makes sure of it!! Jada is beside herself when she finds out who Reiner is and how he is actually interested in her. The media have a field day when photos of them together come out and poor Jada is not prepared at all for the fall out!

Will everything work out of will the media break them apart?

I loved this story and couldn't put the book down!!

This is my first book by Peyton Banks and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Reiner is a hot shot quarterback who has a chance encounter with Jada, the owner of a salon. At their first encounter, both are very attracted to each other and Reiner is thrilled that she doesn't recognize him. That means she is into him and not after his money or fame. Then they have a 2nd encounter and the two decide to see where things lead. In this book, Reiner is white and Jada is African American. While neither one of them have problems with each other's races, you do see how some media and a family member take issue with it - being judgmental and not bothering to get to know Jada. This book is a steamy romance between 2 very likable characters and addresses interracial dating. The storyline is good and the book moves at a good pace - it doesn't drag on nor feel rushed at the end like I see with a lot of romances.

A dominant alpha NFL legend and the young innocent woman that captures his attention and highlights some of the nightmare that goes along with dating a superstar! Reiner is a football legend, a superstar who comes to a young womans rescue when Jada's car breaks down and he stops and waits with her for her tow to come. As they wait they talk and he realizes that she has no clue who is and finds her very interesting and their chemistry is mutual but they go their separate ways. Jada has opened her salon and hopes that it will become the place to go for all your hair needs. They meet up again at a charity auction and they start a courtship and all the ugly and judgements come especially their being of differenty ethnicity. This story is told in dual POV’s. It is a well written interracial love story. Reiner is a wealthy, handsome, single and NFL royalty being the best quarterback in the league. Jada is an independent beautiful strong business owner. The meet on a deserted highway when Jadas scrappy car finally gives out in the middle of the highway on a dark rainy night. Reiner comes by and helps out letting her use her phone and wait for a tow and uber, that happens to take a couple hours. He is enamored by her beauty and her not knowing who he is and wanting to know the man. Jada is shy and intrigued by this handsome stranger. They meet again at a charity auction an Reiner becomes determined to make her his. They struggle with many obstacles, but I love how true love wins out as they overcame people's prejudice and stay together.

Hard Love shows us that love doesn't have a price tag and love cares not for color. I'm swooning over Reiner and Jada's story. They are both so perfect for each other. After meeting when Jada's car breaks down, they start a whirlwind romance that has you wanting to soak up the love pouring from the two of them.

I loved Jada! She was sweet, caring, and just a everyday type person. She could be your neighbor or best friend, she's that much relatable and likable. Reiner is a hot shot football quarterback, but he isn't cocky or a jerk. He's a sweet Texas gentleman. I loved their lives coming together and I loved their families. Neither even noticed a skin color difference other than noticing how right they looked together.

This is truly a feel good romance! The characters are sweet and so lovable! Reiner and Jada will make even the coldest heart melt!

Jada met Reiner on the side of the road on a rainy night. She had no clue he was which made him very surprised. He stayed with her like a true Texas gentleman and waited until the tow truck came to take her car away. After she left they both realize I did not exchange numbers fast forward about maybe two weeks and he meet up again with her at a charity auction. From there things just get absolutely spontaneous. He makes plans for their date. And from there on the reality impossibly realistic romance comes to life. She does not realize that he is a well-known athlete and gets a little bit of social media issues. The only problem now is will his Texas family except her cityfolk family considering that race could be was split them apart. There is no cliffhanger.

“Hard Love” is passionate and emotional. Reiner and Jada meet once, regret not getting each other’s contact info, meet again and the sparks continue to fly. This relationship builds over long phone calls and Reiner’s determination to make Jada his. They show love and respect for each other long before the words are spoken. They are willing to make sacrifices for the well-being of the other. This is a sweet story with city girl/country boy vibes but Reiner and Jada are also multi-layered characters who will touch your heart with their sincerity. There is a good supporting cast of family/friends that bring up realistic issues to be addressed. I love the way they communicate and the ending is very satisfying. Great read!

When pro football player, Reiner Strickland, passes a stranded woman, Jada, he just can't help but stop and help her out. When they go their separate ways, they both have left definite impressions, but it was an opportunity missed on both their parts. When they have a chance meeting a week later, Reiner makes sure that this time the opportunity doesn't pass him by. But can Jada handle being in the spotlight? What happens when its more than boy meets girl, but rich vs poor, black vs white? Will love prevail in the end?

This was a quick cute read. I really wanted more details, a lot of stuff just seemed to happen "behind the scenes", and this story could have been fleshed out a bit more. With a bit of drama, some good sexy times, I give this 4 stars.

Found true love on the side of the road

What a sweet story. I love the natural way Reiner and Jade met and fell in love. The fact that she had no clue who he was, was a real turn on for him. Seeing as he was probably one of the most recognizable people as the quarterback for the recent Superbowl winning team, it was a real turn on for him to have somebody be interested in him for himself. The whole innocence and wholesome way they ended up reconnecting and then dating was refreshing to read. Of course there had to be some conflict and a protagonists in order to balance out the story. Just glad the obstacle wasn't malicious, but instead based on fear for their love and how that fear could affect them as a couple.

Highly recommend this nice, quick HEA to read.

The basic premise of the book was okay. Reiner and Jada meet on the side of the road, after her car breaks down. Fate has them meeting again at a charity auction where they finally exchange phone numbers. This book was riddled with typos, incorrect grammar and stereotypes. If I had not gotten it from Stuff Your Kindle giveaway, I would be really upset. This definitely needs to go back to editing. The stereotypes abound from the FMC's name to her profession(hair dresser); the star quarter back, MMC, being from Texas(Waco no less), the WR on the team being black and the mom having an issue with the relationship. Absolutely no originality.
The story was predicable. What occurs (I wont spoil it) could be "seen" a mile away. The only surprise was the story Reiner's mom told.
