The Heart Between Us: Two Sisters, One Heart Transplant, and a Bucket List

Rate this book
Megan Jacobs always wished for a different heart. Her entire childhood was spent in and out of hospitals, sitting on the sidelines while her twin sister Crystal played all the sports, got all the guys, and had all the fun. But even a heart transplant three years ago wasn’t enough to propel Megan’s life forward. She’s still working as a library aide in her small Minnesota hometown and living with her parents, dreaming of the adventure she plans to take “once she’s well enough.” Meanwhile, her sister is a successful architect with a handsome husband and the perfect life—or so Megan thinks.

When her heart donor’s parents give Megan their teenage daughter’s journal—complete with an unfulfilled bucket list—Megan connects with the girl she meets between the pages and is inspired to venture out and check off each item. Caleb—a friend from her years in and out of the hospital—reenters her life and pushes her to find the courage to take the leap and begin her journey. She’s thrown for a loop when Crystal offers to join her for reasons of her own, but she welcomes the company and the opportunity to mend their tenuous relationship.

As Megan and Crystal check items off the bucket list, Megan fights the fears that have been instilled in her after a lifetime of illness. She must choose between safety and adventure and learn to embrace the heart she’s been given so that she can finally share it with the people she loves most.

FTC DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, which was not required to be positive.

This is Lindsay Harrel's second book, and it's becoming evident to me that her trademark is going to be incredibly deep character journeys. This book, as the title suggests, is full of heart. From beginning to end, the passion for life and figuring out one's faith and laying down one's fears make this journey one worth taking... several times. The fact that communication being key to relationships was featured made me smile and fall in love with this book even more. I've been saying for years that communication is crucial for any relationship to be successful, and it's wonderful when that outlook is emphasized and even featured in a fictional book.

Another fantastic aspect to this story is all the travel. From Rome to Australia to Greece to Peru -- not to mention a couple of stops in the good ol' U.S. of A. -- this book came alive with atmosphere, culture, and adventure. I really should get a passport and save up some money for international traveling, because Ms. Harrel made each location seem like the ideal vacation spot.

There are two reasons why this book only got four instead of five stars from me. Number one: God was called "the Big Guy" once, and I have always believed that this is an irreverent and too-casual way of referring to Him. Number two: There was an entire chapter devoted to skinny-dipping, and it was a "modest" character that was participating. It seemed out of character for her and the genre of Christian fiction. Were those two things done differently, this would have easily been a five-star read for me.

I don't know what else Lindsay Harrel has on her writing schedule, but I know this: She is a must-read author. She brings a ton of heart, deep character journeys, and loads of hope to her stories. I can hardly wait to see what adventure she'll take me on next time.

Content:
* bikini swimsuit
* skinny-dipping
* sexual abuse (handled off-screen and with grace)
* alcohol; pubs

Lindsay Harrel's sophomore novel is about twins Megan and Crystal. Megan had fragile health as a child due to a weak heart. Following a heart transplant she lives out the bucket list of her donor. This was a great opportunity for Megan and Crystal to work through some of their relationship issues as well as each sister to confront their own character flaws.

While I enjoyed this novel overall, I struggled with at least one decision made by each sister. Also, I have a difficult time with the whirlwind speed at which they traveled and toured so many famous places. It just seems if you travel so far and at such an expense there would be a bit more savoring going on. It was very much a checklist type of trip.

The ending was sweet and I look forward to what the author offers next.

It's so nice to read something different that I actually enjoyed from the usual genres I read. The story revolve around God & Faith, Family & Relationships and Travel.

Since this is a Christian fiction novel, there were a lot of God scenes that I don't mind because me myself believe in one true God. I love how this book showed restoring faith of the characters despite the struggles they encounter.

Family was a big factor in this book as well. Megan's family has always been very supportive with her decisions even though traveling was not one of the things her parents wanted her to do because of her heart condition. Megan and Caleb's relationship from the beginning to the end is something to look forward to.

My favorite part of this book was the travel part because you guys know how much I love to travel. Megan needs to travel in order to achieve all the things listed in the bucket list. There were a lot more countries, and you guys need to read this book to know which ones are included.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and I'm glad I read it. It was my first book read from the author and surely won't be the last. You guys should give this book a try because I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it as much as I do, especially if you love to travel as this book will feed your wanderlust. If you're also on the verge of losing your faith, go get yourself a copy because there are really a lot of encouraging passages that will help you restore your faith.

The Heart Between Us contains an epic journey - both around the world and through the steps of relationship reconciliation. Two sisters, both trying to find answers, two love stories, both about second chances and new beginnings, and a whole lot of travel.

Megan Jacobs is stuck - still living at home with her parents even though she is now in her thirties, still working part-time in a job that she likes but doesn’t love, still wondering what happened to her relationship with her twin sister, still regretting giving up on a chance to follower her dreams, still scared that her new heart and health will fail. When Megan meets the parents of her heart-transplant donor, she surprises herself by deciding to fulfil 24 steps on Amanda’s bucket list, and so begins a travel adventure. She is even more surprised when her sister, Crystal, joins her. Crystal, too, is searching for something - answers to her marriage troubles, inspiration for her career, and maybe a chance to face the fears she has held all her life.

Admittedly, I didn’t love this book. It was good, just not great. Or maybe it just wasn’t the right book for me. There is so much happening in this story: 24 bucket-list travel destinations and the intertwining stories of two sisters and their love, family, faith and career troubles. And yet, the book feels slow, I often felt bored with the story, and it took me a long time to really engage with the plot. I enjoyed Crystal’s story more than Megan’s, but it was Amanda, Megan’s heart donor, who I really wanted to get to know, whose story I really wanted to read, and yet we are only given glimpses of it through her journal entries.

With so many travel destinations and bucket-list steps, the majority are skipped over, and the others are simple steps in the story. It is not until near the end of the book that Megan reunites with her old friend, Caleb, and their friendship deepens. As I mentioned before, it was Crystal’s story in which I was more interested. She is battling conflicting pressures. She wants to succeed at work, but it is a huge drain on her time and energy. She loves her husband, but he wants her to work less and to start a family. Crystal is also holding onto a lot of fear and regret from her childhood, and that is effecting her ability to convey her feelings to those around her. Again, the end of the book brings more drama, complications, and energy to Crystal’s story.

The Heart Between Us is a contemporary Christian novel, and faith is neatly woven into the story as both Megan and Crystal finally realise that the answers they search for cannot be found from within their own limited resources, but that they must instead learn to rely on God and the others around them for help.

The Heart Between Us is a sweet story about family, love, travel and second chances.

The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.

Title: The Heat Between Us: Two sisters, One Heart Transplant, and a Bucket List
Author: Lindsay Harrel
Genre: Contemporary
Publication Date: March 13, 2018

ARC

The Heart Between Us is my first Lindsay Harrel book and honestly, I really enjoyed the idea of the book. This book is a contemporary book that has elements of Christian faith and it teases the hearts of those with a wanderlust soul.
I really appreciated that this book touches the different aspects of love, family, sacrifices and the abundant generosity of strangers in the most unlikely way.

I loved the journey of these two sisters and their quest in rebuilding the bridge of sisterhood and also simultaneously finding ones individual identity.

Having said that, The Heart Between Us is simple but at times I felt myself skimming through it. To be fair, I was expecting a powerful book but in some areas I found things to be quite childish and juvenile.

All in all, The Heart Between Us is a lovely book filled with the story of courage, conquering ones greatest fear and a whole load of adventure.

The story was beautiful. Crystal and Megan both had their issues and both worked through them. Despite the near perfect, major blow up, space and time, and then making up, happily ever after cliche, it was fun to read. I enjoyed the adventures that Megan had and the way that they really eventually tried to recover their relationship. The settings were well done, feelings complicated enough, thoughts and quotes deep. And the message threaded through the whole thing.

This book isn't a gospel message though. It points to hope found in Jesus, but not really how to be saved, so I would assume it's for a Christian audience.

Ages 17 and up as there is talk about stuff between Crystal and her husband and having kids etc. as well as The sisters go skinny dipping, and mention of sexual abuse, approach, etc.

Two sisters, twin sisters, one strong and controlling, one with a defective heart, once so close, and now so far apart. Crystal is suffering from guilt that she has always been strong and her sister fought heart problems for 20 years before a transplant finally gave her health. Megan is suffering from guilt from all the parental attention focused on her instead of her sister because of her heart problems. Is there any way they can find their way back to one another? When Megan meets her donor's parents and is given the donor's bucket list, she decides she want to overcome her fear and complete Amanda's unfulfilled bucket list. Crystal and her husband are having marital issues due to Crystal's workaholic lifestyle. Can going to all the places Amanda dreamed of traveling with her sister, Megan, help them rekindle their close relationship?

This is a book filled with adventures that will make you laugh and cry as both girls find their way back to one another, find their way back to their faith, and let go of their fears and inhibitions. It is filled with second chances and forgiveness along with a touch of romance for both Crystal and Megan. Other than a couple of things on the bucket list that the author might have changed to something else more fitting, this was an amazing book that I absolutely fell in love with. Made my 2018 Favorites List.

I just finished...and I.Just.Cant. I don’t cry watching movies...I don’t cry actual tears reading books. I silently sobbed...even in front of my hubby, after this one was read. However, having got a debilitating neuro disease at 16, being the oldest of five siblings...I’ve often wondered how they felt about some of the drastic changes our life too once I was ill. This book touches on that subjects...and others that are so personal.

For me, this book touched a place in my heart that no other book really has. I don’t deal with emotions...I deal with facts. I’m not a moody or emotional person...it isn’t my personality. Every once in a while, tho, my disease brings thoughts.

I’m not sure this even makes sense, but just read this book. Open your heart to the joy God has for you!

I liked THE HEART BETWEEN US but didn’t fall head over heels for it. That’s partly personal preference and part overall style, but I’ll get to all that, just keep reading.

THE HEART BETWEEN US has a certain quality to it that reminded me of the Amanda Bynes film “What a Girl Wants”. The stories aren’t necessarily similar, but the vibes just felt the same. The American in a foreign land with strained family ties and sightseeing montages…something about it just made me think that there was definitely a crossover audience in there somewhere. Cross that with a sweet and scenic made-for-TV movie, because that’s what the dialogue reminded me of, and I feel like I’ve pegged down the overall experience of this book.

While this all came together as a perfectly lovely book, it was also a little too on-the-nose for my tastes. Everything was just a bit too perfectly placed and magically coincidental. I think it was the Philosophy student at the Colosseum who suddenly just steered the conversation into a succinctly apropos deep moment with one of our leads that pushed me into that determination. The entire book from then on was too neat and easy.

Now here is where I want to shout, “Don’t let that reign as complete judgment”, because one of my best friend’s loves everything I’ve outlined above. Truly and seriously, once I finished the book, I knew it was something that I would recommend to her because it’s her type of story, from beginning to end. Just like I said at the top, it’s all about personal preference.

I did enjoy the two main characters for the most part. At times Megan was written more like a 20 year old, instead of 32. I know that she’s supposed to have been sheltered because of her illness but it was still a bit OTT. Aside from that, I think this book was actually more about Crystal’s growth. Sure it was Megan’s journey that we were following, but it was really Crystal who was the mystery and had the more compelling story to tell. It was great to see how she evolved from city to city and moment to moment.

There was a lot of travel that the characters had to get through, so it goes fairly quickly. The author bundled most sights and cities into short chapters that had our leads skipping across the globe. It made for a lot of situational storytelling and it kept the book moving forward fast. It could have easily been chapters and chapters of sights and sounds but I think the author edited it down in a very smart way.

I won’t spoil anything but the book wraps up neatly with several messages to take away. Overall, the book was okay but not entirely for me. Still, I know that this book would be the perfect escape for other readers. It’s sweet but also has deep moments, with the added bonus of wanderlust and romances new and old.

The Heart Between Us was a beautiful story. It was my first read by Lindsay Harrel, but it definitely won't be my last. This story, in my opinion, is a perfect example of contemporary fiction done well. There's romance, but there is so much more to the plot. In fact, the romance is secondary to the sister's (Megan and Crystal) journey...and what a journey it was!

It took me a couple chapters to get hooked by the story but after that I was flipping pages quickly and couldn't wait to see what happened next. I think one of the biggest reasons why I loved The Heart Between Us so much is because the characters were very likable and the plot was believable. I also found the whole idea of a heart transplant recipient trying to fulfill her donor's unfulfilled bucket list to be an amazing storyline.

All in all, The Heart Between Us was a phenomenal read and one I highly recommend.

I love reading new to me authors! This book intrigued me, though I am rather picky with contemporary stories. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well written and changed over the course of the book, which I always like to see. I loved the different travel settings throughout the story. I could better relate to Crystal and her storyline but I enjoyed reading both parts. Some parts of the book were slow, some were slightly rushed through. I really loved the marriage aspect with Crystal and her husband. It was real and written in a way that just worked. I also loved the journey Megan takes. There is some slight romance but the sisterly relationship was the one I liked the most. I think Harrel has some great potential with her future books and I am excited to see what she will come up with next!

Four stars.

This little story encompasses relationships, travel, romance, and a poignant story of siblings as they embark on a life-changing journey. I don't think I've EVER been to so many countries and continents vicariously through just 1 story. 🗼

I like surprises. The Heart Between Us surprised me in the best way! I expected a cute, fun story about Megan, maybe even a journey of self discovery, with emotional moments, of course. I did NOT expect all that and more as the viewpoints of BOTH Megan and Crystal switch off and tell a poignant story of sister-friendship, healing, and bravery all against a backdrop of continent-hopping and adventure.

The heart-journey of these sisters, both literal and figurative, explores the dynamics of relationships and the honesty required in true connections. This process also shows the beauty of letting go of fears and trusting that God's control is constant, even amid misunderstandings and the sometimes-unfairness of circumstance.

I would be remiss not to mention the sweet romance born of friendship that Megan and Caleb share. It was perfectly timed in Megan's life. I just loved the way Caleb was always a gentleman and so encouraging to Megan.

Thank you to the publisher and author for the review copy. This is my honest review.

“God wants nothing more than to restore us…”

I expected this to be an inspiring story with lots of feels and travel adventures I could vicariously live through. And it is. But the concept of heart – and all it means for the different players – and the healing that is painted on these pages far exceeded my expectations.

I absolutely love Megan. She is such a layered character with a sweet personality and more courage than she gives herself credit for. After being sick for so long, she is finally able to live a full life but fear has been holding her back. As she connects with her donor’s family and gets to know her donor via the journal Amanda left behind, she is inspired to complete the teenager’s unfulfilled bucket list. Amanda did complete one of the items on the list already, and it’s actually that item that becomes the theme of the book in ways you might not at first expect.

There’s a dash of romance that of course I loved. Really loved. I swooned. And sighed blissfully. BUT at the same time it doesn’t overwhelm the plot. And there’s another love story going on that I didn’t expect – and one that hit me right in the feels. Again, I don’t want to give a lot of the plot away because part of the beauty of the novel is joining these two sisters on their journey and taking each step with them. As a side note, can I just say that I love Crystal’s story and I’m so glad the author gave her a voice too. Though Megan remains my favorite! And Caleb… there I go swooning again!

Bottom Line: The Heart Between Us is part travel adventure, part hit-you-in-the-feels women’s fiction, part exploration of sisterhood and part romance. But it’s ALL excellently done. I knew I would enjoy this one; I just didn’t realize I would enjoy it so much. Megan’s story intertwines with her twin sister Crystal’s, her donor Amanda’s, and her best friend Caleb’s as she travels across the globe on a mission to finish a bucket list and find her own footing. Her multi-country, multi-cultural adventures are fun to experience vicariously and they serve well to move the story forward without bogging it down. Overall, the faith message is subtle but woven in so sweetly, and I wouldn’t change a bit of it.

The Heart Between Us was packed with depth and emotion! I ended up with both a paperback copy and an audio copy. I listened to most of the book on audio and then finished out the last eighteen chapters by reading the paperback. The narrator did a nice job on this story, using differing voices for the various characters. I enjoyed the narration on this audio book very much.

I loved the journal entries in this novel. It helped slowly reveal who Amanda (the heart donor) was, and what she had endured in her young life. I loved the main character, Megan. She had a lot of growing to do in the story, in order to overcome her fears, yet she did everything in a kind and caring manner. Crystal was a difficult character for me to embrace, however, I ended up really enjoying her journey and the life lessons she learned.

I found that even though the sisters, Crystal and Megan, were the main characters, I actually really liked the men in this book! Brian and Caleb were truly stand up guys.

The traveling and sightseeing was so nicely done in this story, I felt like I was experiencing things right along with Megan. I found myself yearning to visit some of the places myself.

Although I received a complimentary copy of this book in print form, I also purchased the audio copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.

Spun with irresistible dialogue and a unique premise, The Heart Between Us is a unique canvas of women's fiction, threaded with romance, that transplants the reader to a buoyant collage of European locales.

A bucket list adventure underscored by deeper tenets of faith, friendship and the bonds that tether us together even as we drift apart.

A colourful thesis of dreams and reconciling passion with circumstance, this will appeal to those with a hefty dollop of wanderlust as well as the hopeless romantics amongst us: romanticism of place and human interconnection balance each well-written page.

This a book with some heart. I loved how Harrel writes with so much heart and she has relationships down to a science. I love how she made this book about family and relationships and oh so important communication. You are going to love it from beginning to end.

In this book you are going to get to travel, that's always a plus in my opinion. You will go to From Rome to Australia to Greece to Peru. Now you know you want to dive in to this book after hearing that!

I gave this book 4 stars and I recommend it.

For the most part, this book was a touching story of two estranged sisters making amends with each other and overcoming dire circumstances. I haven't experienced such a tale of siblings since I saw Frozen in theaters on Christmas Day 2013.

Unfortunately, the author decided to put some unnecessary bits. Sexual dialogue ("Want to make a baby with me?" "I thought you'd never ask!,") and moments of immodest dress popped up; especially disappointing was a scene where the twin sisters skinny dipped, which is likely to cause inappropriate thoughts in the minds of male readers.

So, this was a mixed bag.

Note: Kristin reads and reviews both Christian and secular fiction on A Simply Enchanted Life. Out of respect for my readers, I am including a content review. This content review will help you decide whether this book is suitable for you.

Christian or Secular: Christian
ASEL Rating: mild violence (though no detailed description)
Content to be aware of:
This book includes a character that survived child molestation. No details are given. The situation is only alluded to. For this reason, I give it a mild rating as it may be a trigger to some readers.

My thoughts:
I'm going to just go ahead and admit that I'm not usually crazy about contemporary fiction. But this cover was adorable and the synopsis pulled me right in. I was very pleasantly surprised! I actually really liked this book!

I wouldn't be surprised if this book is picked up for a lifetime movie. Seriously, it has all the makings—a troubled past, an uncertain future and the sweetest romance.

In The Heart Between Us, there is a young woman who had a heart transplant. She's convinced that to get her own life on track, she must fulfill the bucket list that belonged to her donor.

As the story progresses, we find out that the donor had her own sad story. Her parents are struggling to cope with losing their daughter. They support Megan's decision to complete their daughter's list.

Last, The Heart Between us has one of the sweetest romances that I've read in a while. I was rooting for Caleb from the moment Megan bumped into him at a fundraiser. They were absolutely adorable together.

The only reason I give this book a four star instead of a five is that it was more of a clean read than Christfic. There's very little faith content and the characters are seen drinking and skinny dipping on one occasion.

The book was in no way inappropriate but it also wasn't overly faith-filled...until the end. By that point, it felt so disjointed to me. You have these characters that struggle with life and faith until suddenly everything is completely right. But that took place without a conversion. I didn't see conviction or a gradual work of the Lord in their hearts. One day the girls were miserable and the next it was miraculously all better after a little Jesus. I mean, yes, Jesus makes all things better but I didn't really see Jesus in this book.

Overall, I still enjoyed the book. Had the faith content felt less forced and disjointed, I could have given this book a five-star. I would definitely read this author again. Though this book is not a genre that I would typically read, I'm very glad that I picked up the book.

The Heart Between Us is an emotionally gripping book that's perfect for readers who love contemporary chick-lit.

Great storyline, good development of characters, believable emotional and spiritual growth of both sisters, and satisfying conclusion all combined to make an enjoyable book to read, one that I world recommend. Added bonus that it has the element of travel (only downside of that is questioning at times the author’s timeline and travel details which I’m sure were reasonable, just seemed allot to cram into what was supposed to be about a month? - anyways, not a big deal and like I said, I enjoyed the travel aspect of it. )

“What if life isn’t about that big moment, but a lot of little moments that add up along the way?”

Such a lovely read. This book makes me want hug everyone I love and tell them how much I appreciate them. It makes me want to live my life full of joy and stop worrying about the past and things that are out of my control. It makes me want to travel the world and fall in love. But mostly, this book makes me want to LIVE.

I enjoyed this book. I love traveling! So,I really enjoyed reading about their travels and the cool places they got to go to. I do wish they were in a place longer, but I understand because the bucket list was long. I also really liked that this was about two sisters. Reading books about sisters is always fun for me because I have three of them. I liked the characters, but I couldn’t really relate to any of them. Also, that cover is so cute! Although, this wasn’t my favorite book ever. It was still good.

A Heart Between Us by Lindsay Harrel is a unique book filled with romance and a set of twin women determined to make a way for their lives. Megan finally after years with a heart defect receives a new heart and wants to travel and complete the bucket list for Amanda, the girl who donated her heart. While on the other hand, Crystal, her twin sister, lives the perfect life in New York City with her husband and her dream job.

Harrel is a good writer who came up with a unique storyline that I haven't seen before. She took a what if idea and completed a whole novel around the story. She understood how to drag me along to understand the twins emotions. Harrel is good at reaching the surface level of the emotions.

As for the twins, I really didn't empathize with any of them. Megan wanted to do more and prove she could do more, but she still is doing the cookie cutter things by the end of the book. She took the safe job. She took the safe route. She did mature a little from the beginning of the book, but I wanted more of a transformation. Traveling around the world can change a person. (Not that I know. I have barely left my home state.) As for Crystal, she is afraid at the beginning to not look perfect all the time. At the end, she changes a little, but I really wonder if she will change that much. It's really hard to change who you have been most of your life.

The plot line was predictable. I even wrote a check list when I read to page fifty of what I thought would occur in the rest of the novel, and every item was checked off by the time I finished the book. The "blowup" between the sisters was really downplayed. I wanted something more dramatic. There are huge hurts here. Harrel made it important than she glossed over the argument and the outcome. I wanted to see the hurts brought to the surface. Then of course, they make up and have a much closer relationship.

Another problem I had was the traveling to all the different places. Why did they have to only have one chapter in one city? They traveled to way too many cities in a short novel. I wanted more time in each place. I don't think even Megan and Crystal had a good time in the rush while they were there. We got a snapshot of an event that corresponded with the bucket list, but nothing else. No real sightseeing. It was mentioned, but it happened off the pages. Troubles while traveling. It happened in the beginning, then went away. Maybe the bucket list should have been completed over a number of years. Not in a few weeks. Maybe Crystal could have joined her halfway through her trip and allowed us to experience their growth a little more with the beautiful countries.

The two sets of romances for the twins were completely predictable too. I knew what was going to happen with each relationship before it happened.

Overall, The Heart Between Us by Lindsay Harrel did not wow me like a contemporary romance should. The plot and romance were predictable with a flurry of snapshot moments in a lot of cities around the globe. Fans of Kara Issac might enjoy this novel.

I received a complimentary copy of The Heart Between Us by Lindsay Harrel from Thomas Nelson Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.

To be absolutely honest, it took me some time to really grab what was happening with the plot with this book. In fact there was a moment in which I considered putting the book down for good. I'm glad that I stuck with it.

Twin sisters Crystal & Megan are so far apart, physically - emotionally. They haven't spoken or seen each other in years. One a talented junior architect for a prestigious Manhattan firm. Married and struggling to balance that ever seeming challenge of a healthy relationship between work and home life. Brian her husband patiently has stood by as she continually puts him second to the all encompassing dream of senior architect. How much longer can he put his plans and dreams on hold? When will Crystal ever find the time for the life they thought they would have together?

Megan, recovering heart transplant patient, is now healthy but living her life, literally in so much fear that she choose 'safe' over adventure. Living with her parents and working a go nowhere job at the local library - this story begins with a chance meeting with Caleb. The one man she has always admired. Fellow transplant patient and support person. She has turned down opportunity with him before, but this moment is a turning point of sorts and Megan sets out to meet the parents of her heart donor. A journal, a bucket list, an opportunity to reconnect with her estranged twin. A trip of a lifetime around the world becomes the main focus of the book.

I had hoped for more interaction between Megan & Caleb especially. There were times when I felt it fell a little monotonous. But as this journey starts to bear it's end, things pick up and it pulls you right in.

Clever concept of this very real struggle that heart disease and the opportunity to get a transplant and all the strain that has put on the two sisters. A clever title, and two wonderful peaceful endings. I appreciated the reminder that we cannot control most of the situations we find ourselves in during this life on earth. When we spend our time worrying about that which we can't control we are failing to put our trust in God, and all that He can offer. Even if His plan is not to spare the hurt, He will provide the love and hope.

Thank you to Netgalley for the eARC. Look out for this book in the New Year.

I just finished this book and it's midnight. I couldn't put it down until I finished. This story is a poignant look at family, and priorities. What is the most important thing in life? Two sisters embark on a trip of a lifetime to figure this out. A romantic tale of finding love, re-claiming love and offering forgiveness. I definitely recommend this book because it shows hope in overcoming hardships in relationships.
*I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
