Welcome to our latest GM Equality Alliance (GM=EqAl) e-bulletin which contains a round up of updates and information of the equalities work happening in Greater Manchester.

GM Equality Alliance Update

The GM=EqAl attended a meeting with the Greater Manchester Police Constable, Assistant Chief Constable, and Chief Resource Officer. The meeting was in response to the letters sent by the alliance about the disproportionate policing and mistreatment of vulnerable people in custody suites. The meeting yielded in positive results a commitment to future partnership working and a written response to the questions by the alliance.

The group would also be consulting on the NHS GM Population Health ‘Fairer Health for All’ framework draft at the October Working Group meeting.

We Lead For Legacy

We Lead For Legacy is a high level leadership programme for future and current leaders from racially marginalised communities, brought to you by Greater Manchester Combined Authority, in partnership with She Leads For Legacy, Flourish Together and Reform Radio.

This programme is designed to offer participants first-hand knowledge of public appointees' roles and responsibilities, offering insight into the systems and procedures of public bodies, alongside building awareness, confidence and skills to enable participation in civic and community roles, and bring unique voices and lived experiences to the forefront.

Dame Vera Baird Inquiry wants to hear from any women and girls about strip searches in custody

The independent Inquiry by Dame Vera Baird KC into the treatment by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) of women and girls in relation to arrest, custody, strip or intimate searching and respect for their dignity and rights wants to hear from any further women and girls about their experience in these areas. This includes any examples of any removal and replacement of clothing in GMP custody.

Open letter on the Home Secretary's comments on refugee protections

The Migrant's Rights Network has published an open statement to condemn the comments made by the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, on Tuesday that promote hostility towards migrants and migratised communities across Europe through racist and xenophobic rhetoric around "integration". and is inviting groups and individuals to sign.

Migrant Voice National Day of Action against extortionate visa fees

Migrant Voice are going to lead on organising a national day of action to raise awareness of visa costs and settlement routes among the public and policy makers. Groups, organisations or individuals are welcome to take part and organise actions and activities in their local area, city or community.

We are excited to introduce a new social investment fund for organisations and businesses working in Greater Manchester who are trading for social good and looking to grow.

GMCVO are working in a unique partnership with the Greater Manchester Credit Union Consortium, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Access – The Foundation for Social Investment and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to deliver local investment with real impact, in communities where the need is highest.

End Violence Against Women Coalition manifesto
