The 11-week structure – the longest offered by a legal firm in Ireland, allows you to become embedded into the firm, immerse yourself in our culture and build relationships. Our interns take advantage of greater exposure to transactions and are delegated relevant and interesting high value work by partners and associates. By the end of the 11-week program you will have received a full insight into the life as a trainee in an international law firm.
Typical tasks during a summer internship with us include:
- attending court
- assisting with research
- drafting documents
- meeting partners, solicitors and trainees at social events
- taking part in one of our corporate responsibility events
- attending a range of informal talks to discover more about Eversheds Sutherland
Our summer internship is open to all undergraduates and postgraduates who have completed at least three years of their degree.

Being an international law firm brings international opportunities. To experience the international aspect of our firm we offer a fully funded secondment opportunity. We recognise that intern secondments are valuable in terms of personal and career development and a great opportunity to gain experience, confidence and skills whilst immersed in a different culture. Our interns have the opportunity to spend two weeks on secondment in one of our UK offices.

Our interns have the opportunity to make an innovative impact on our firm and to showcase their talent and creativity by putting their skills into practice! Our interns work in teams to participate in a team based project (non-legal topic), assigning various team roles, being creative whilst also having some fun doing it!
At the end of the program each team is invited to present their project to a judging panel.
As a summer intern you will be assigned to a team in one of our three main departments; Commercial, Property or Litigation, or one of our specialist areas which consist of; Employment, Funds, Tax, Intellectual Property, Technology and Data protection, Pensions, Construction and Projects or Banking. Reporting directly to the partner of that team, your workload will be varied and interesting with the responsibility equal to that of a trainee.
We are aware that feedback will be important for you throughout your internship. While we encourage on the job feedback, each of our interns are invited to a mid-program session with their partner and a member of HR. The meetings are an open forum that provide interns with an opportunity to analyse their own performance, discuss their progress, identify strengths and development areas and distinguish any key areas of interest.
Your feedback is important to us in making improvements to the program each year. who better to ask for feedback than those completing the program. Each year we run an intern group session at the end of the program and have an interactive and open discussion on what worked and maybe what didn’t work so well.
Each intern is allocated a buddy, usually a trainee solicitor, on their first day. Your buddy will help settle first day nerves and will offer support and guidance throughout the program and be the ‘go to’ person in terms of seeking advice/answering any questions.
Each summer intern is guaranteed a traineeship interview.
