SURE 2021

Event Date: 17th March 2021 (1pm - 5:30pm)

Bournemouth University’s (BU) annual undergraduate research conference – Showcasing Undergraduate Research Excellence (SURE) – returns for a sixth year in 2021. As well as giving students a supportive platform to showcase their work, it gives others at BU an insight into the excellent research undertaken by our undergraduates.

For 2021 this event will take place virtually on Wednesday 17 March between 1pm and 5.30pm.

Over 50 BU students will be presenting their work this year and you can meet nine of the students that will be featured during the event on our website to read more about their abstracts and the motivations behind their research.

Conference organisation

This year the conference will be hosted virtually on MS Teams. After booking your place further information about joining the virtual meeting will be shared with you nearer the time. During the conference we will move between the following Teams channels:

  • General
  • Channel A – L: Break-out channels.
  • Social – between every session there is the opportunity for a 10-15 coffee break. Join our social channel to chat with other conference attendees.

  • 16:30 Keynote ‘Search and Research’ – Dr Lois Farquharson, Samreen Ashraf Bournemouth University Business School
  • 17:00 Summary and prizes with Dr Mary Beth Gouthro, Dr Karen Fowler Watt, Eleanor Wills and Dr Fiona Cownie
  • 17:30 Optional after conference social for those who want to join. Grab yourself a drink and celebrate your success!

Conference participation

The conference will be an afternoon event running between 1pm and 5.30pm and we would like you to participate and contribute as much as possible. However, we fully understand some of you might have caring responsibilities, you might also be sharing technology and internet with other members of your household. Due to these factors, we understand that you may not be able to participate in the whole event, but we would like you to make every effort to attend as much as you feel is possible and please try to ensure you participate in:

  • The start of the SURE 2021 conference with our opening statement and first keynote speaker
  • A variety of student presentations
  • Our second keynote speaker and summary of prizes which takes place from 4.15pm
