About this event

This masterclass is part of St Clare Hospice's series of lunchtime lectures, covering a range of subjects relating to end of life care. It presents an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge from experienced practitioners in palliative and end of life care.

The talk will cover the use of SPIKES, the 6 step protocol for delivering bad news to patients, when discussing end of life and palliative care treatment. The talk will be delivered by Elaine Hugget, a nurse from the Hospice's Inpatient Unit, along with Dr Syed Qamar Abbas, who is the Medical Director and Consultant in Palliative Medicine at St Clare Hospice and Princess Alexandra Hospital. Dr Abbas also holds the titles of Senior Clinical Tutor at University of Cambridge and Associate Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford. He speaks from his experience and his involvement in palliative care for more than 21 years.
