Introduction:

Connect 5 is a workforce training programme, created to upskill non-mental health staff to better understand and successfully address mental health issues. It takes a preventative approach to poor mental wellbeing.

Using the framework of the Five ways to wellbeing and the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, the course aims to empower front facing staff, whether in the public, private or voluntary sectors to have conversations with their clients about mental wellbeing.

Connect 5 is relevant to a wide range of non-specialist front facing staff who work with people at risk of poor mental health. It uniquely optimises opportunities for building a culture of self-management, prevention and improved access to psychological approaches to health and wellbeing. It also has the potential to be a workplace wellbeing tool, enabling colleagues to better support each other.

The course is an incremental three Session programme, escalating skills through each session. The course is delivered as interactive on line sessions using Teams or Zoom and are three hours long:

Session One – Brief Advice - 2nd September

Develops core understanding of mental health, mental wellbeing and how to signpost to local services and resources that enable people to help themselves.

This is aimed at anyone with an interest in improving mental wellbeing, whose role involves interaction with the public, or anyone with the opportunity to give brief wellbeing advice.

Session Two – Brief Wellbeing Intervention: 9th September

Builds skills and confidence to work with and improve the mental health and wellbeing of others. This includes how to support greater insight into experiences of stress and distress and how to help people take first steps to make themselves feel better.

Aimed at those with the opportunity through their working practice, to engage in brief interventions.

Session Three – Integrated Wellbeing Intervention - 16th September

Advancing skills to work collaboratively with clients to create an action plan and integrate brief interventions to motivate and support people to make changes that last.

Aimed at those with the opportunity through their working practice, to engage in brief interventions over a period of time.
