About this event

Health & Wellbeing Research Seminar Series - joint seminar with the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Wessex and the Wessex Academic Health Science Network (AHSN)

'How ARC Wessex is increasing links between knowledge generators and knowledge users to improve uptake, application and influence of applied health research within the Wessex health, care and public health system'

presented by

Professor Catherine Bowen

Professor of Podiatry / NIHR ARC Wessex Academic Career Development Lead

NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Wessex carries out health and care research together with our partners and with the support of patients and the public. Our aim is to make life better and healthier for our communities and beyond. The purpose of this seminar is to illustrate how ARC Wessex works with partner organisations to achieve this aim and how members of the Wessex region can become part of this. Examples of uptake in applied health research collaborations with clinicians from Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust and academics from University of Winchester will be showcased. These will be used to demonstrate how seed funding for those individuals and embedding them within the ARC Wessex infrastructure has influenced development of applied health research in the region as well as the broader aspects of the benefits of having a critical mass of researchers.

and

Research, education and innovation in Wessex’s health and care systems – the role of Wessex AHSN

presented by

Bill Gillespie

Chief Executive of Wessex Academic Health Science Network (AHSN)

The AHSN:

- supports researchers to think about how their research can be translated into impact in health and care settings;

- supports innovators to test and develop the value proposition of their innovation and consider options for scaling;

- supports “adopters of innovation” to consider what they need to put in place to be able to adopt and embed innovation more effectively

- support educators to consider the impact of innovation trends on the current workforce and the training and development of the future workforce

Bill will talk about examples of work in these areas and how the AHSN can provide support to University staff across these themes.
