We are looking for:

We are looking for Duty Managers, a Lead Duty Manager and Front of House Team Members to work with us on this year’s Liberty Festival – the Mayor of London’s annual festival of work by Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists.

This year the three-day festival will take place in Croydon, as part of London Borough of Culture 2023. 

Taking place 1-3 September 2023 in and around Fairfield Halls, Liberty Festival will be a packed line-up of comedy, theatre, dance, music and more, featuring artists such as Francesca Martinez, Billy Read, Rachel Gadsden, Candoco and Touretteshero.

Liberty Festival includes extensive access provision throughout, including relaxed events, BSL interpreters, on-demand audio description, step free access, easy-read packs, a wellbeing hub and more.

LEAD DUTY MANAGER / Staff & Volunteer Coordinator

  • Days / dates:

    • 2x days planning (between 28 and 31 August)

    • 0.5x days training / briefing (paid, 31 August)

    • 3x days festival (1-3 September)

  • Pay: £18 per hour

  • Responsibilities: 

    • Coordinating / scheduling of volunteers and FOH team in lead up to the festival.

    • Manage and support FOH team, Duty Managers and volunteers during the festival.

    • Providing cover relief for Duty Managers stationed on festival venue.

    • Act as point of contact between DMs, FOH, Production team, venue team and festival directors.

    • Support with daily staff briefings during the festival.

    • Oversee set up, running and health and safety of the festival hub.

    • Ensure festival routes / thoroughfares are clear of hazards, and that all festival public spaces are clean and safe.

    • Liaise with security staff to ensure all venues and spaces are kept safe and secure.

    • Provide first aid cover whilst covering breaks for other DMs and/or provide back-up first aid support as needed. 

  • Essential skills / experience

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Duty Manager Role or similar (supervisory).

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and complex environment

    • First aid certificate.

    • Strong time management skills.

    • Strong attention to detail.

    • Strong problem solving skills.

  • Desirable skills / experience

    • Fire safety certificate.

    • Experience working on festivals / multi venue events.

    • Experience working on inclusive / accessible arts projects.

DUTY MANAGERS

  • Days / dates:

    • Duty Manager 1 & 2

      • 0.5x days training / briefing (paid, 31 August)

      • 3x days festival (1-3 September)

    • Duty Manager 3

      • 0.5x days training / briefing (paid, 31 August)

      • 2x days festival (2 & 3 September)

    • Duty Manager 4

      • 0.5x days training / briefing (paid, 31 August)

      • 1x days festival (2 September)

  • Pay: £16 per hour

  • Responsibilities: 

    • Oversee the smooth and safe running of one of the Liberty Festival venues / locations (each of the 4 duty managers will be allocated to a specific venue). 

    • Provide daily briefings to FOH team and volunteers for the specific venue.

    • Manage and support FOH team and volunteers for the specific venue.

    • Act as point of contact between staff (tech, FOH, volunteers, access staff) at specific venue and wider team (Lead DM, festival directors, Production Manager)

    • Oversee opening/closing, running and health and safety for the specific venue.

    • Ensure specific venue is clear of hazards, and is clean and safe.

    • Liaise with security staff to ensure specific venue is kept safe and secure.

    • Provide first aid cover for specific venue. 

  • Essential skills / experience

    • Minimum 1 year experience in Duty Manager Role or similar.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

    • Strong time management skills.

    • Strong attention to detail.

    • Strong problem solving skills.

  • Desirable skills / experience

    • First aid trained.

    • Fire safety certificate.

    • Experience working on festivals.

    • Experience working on inclusive / accessible arts projects.

FRONT OF HOUSE TEAM

  • Days / dates:

    • 0.5x days training / briefing (paid, 31 August)

    • From 1 to 3 days festival (1-3 September)

    • Note: Not essential to be available for all 3 festival days

  • Pay: £14 per hour

  • Responsibilities: 

    • Greeting and welcoming audiences and visitors to the festival.

    • Providing information about the festival programme, specific events and performances and access provision to visitors.

    • Supporting audiences to find their way around venues, and between the different festival locations.

    • Checking tickets.

    • Dealing with booking / ticketing enquiries.

    • Supporting festival artists.

    • Working alongside volunteers, and supporting them in their roles.

    • Signposting audiences and participants to access provision (wellbeing hub, BSL interpreters, audio describers etc)

    • Helping festival staff with set-up, tidying and clearing of venues.

  • Essential skills / experience

    • Previous experience in front of house roles in the arts.

    • A warm and friendly approach to audiences and colleagues.

    • Strong teamwork skills.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and complex environment.

    • Strong time management skills.

  • Desirable skills / experience

    • First aid training.

    • Experience working on festivals.

    • Experience working on inclusive / accessible arts projects.
