Over 20,000 students welcomed at virtual Careers and Apprenticeship Show

Careers and Apprenticeship Show 2021 - Dorset Careers Hub virtual booth

Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and its Dorset Careers Hub supported the successful delivery of the virtual Careers and Apprenticeship Show 2021, in partnership with 12 organisations across Dorset, Hampshire and Surrey.

The Careers and Apprenticeship Show 2021 was the first of these events held virtually and provided essential careers advice and meaningful encounters with employers and education providers to young people aged 15-19 across the region. The event saw the culmination of six months of work by a lead team of six across Dorset, Hampshire and Surrey, including Dorset LEP representatives.

Over 50 percent of event registrations were from Dorset based young people, teachers, parents and carers. Over 20,000 students joined the event and benefited from over 60 exhibitor booths which were visited a total of 33,364 times throughout the day. Twenty live careers talks took place and reached considerably more young people than the live events of previous years. Over 30 pre-recorded careers sessions and hundreds of downloadable information documents were also available to attendees.

Cecilia Bufton, Chair of Dorset LEP said: “We are proud to have supported such a successful day. The event brought an incredible amount of diverse content and opportunities to young people across Dorset, Hampshire and Surrey. We are delighted that so many young people were able to attend and benefit from much needed advice and support for their futures. It is impressive to hear how well the team achieved high levels of meaningful engagement in a virtual environment.”

Dorset LEP’s Dorset Careers Hub supports schools across the county to fulfil the Gatsby Benchmarks, some of which have been difficult to achieve due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual Careers and Apprenticeship Show offered an excellent opportunity for schools to fulfil some of their Gatsby Benchmarks, some of which were unlikely to be achieved without this provision.

Thank you to all partners, employers and education providers who supported the Careers and Apprenticeship Show 2021.
