The Sidmouth Road station at Middlemoor, which opened in in April this year, has won awards for its construction and sustainability and is within the top 10% most sustainable buildings in the country.

The new, modern building, which replaces the dilapidated Heavitree Road station, is the operational home for more than 450 officers and features 40 high-tech custody cells, electric vehicle charging points and 314sqm of solar panels on the roof.

But you don’t have to take our word for it, you can now see inside the station yourself thanks to an interactive virtual tour created by Cornish-based tech firm Ocean 3D.

The tour, which you can access here, allows users to take a walk through all three floors of the state-of-the-art facility as if you were actually there, though some sensitive areas have had to be excluded for safety purposes.

In fact the digital tour is so detailed it contains 1,354,442,342,400 (1.3 Quadrillion) pixels – that’s 4,346 times more points of information than there are stars in the Milky Way.

Alison Hernandez, Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, oversees the police’s estates team who delivered the project.

Commissioner Hernandez said: “I’m extremely proud of everything our estates team has achieved with this project.  We have created a truly state-of-the-art facility that will provide a pleasant and practical working environment for our officers and see us well into the future.

“As well as wanting to share these great achievements, this virtual tour also provides a valuable service in allowing those with autism or Asperger’s syndrome to get a feel for the building before visiting, should they ever need to.

“Evidence suggests people with syndromes such as this can feel more at ease if they are aware of the surroundings they are going into, in what can often be stressful or unpleasant circumstances.
