Cooley’s London Office Reaffirms Commitment to Mental Health + Wellness in the Workplace

October 9, 2020

London – October 9, 2020 – Cooley’s London office has signed on to the Mindful Business Charter, a collective of businesses and law firms that share a commitment to combatting avoidable stress in the workplace and promoting healthier and more effective ways of working.

Launched in 2018, the Mindful Business Charter aims to promote a culture of openness about mental well-being, ensure responsible business is included as an area of assessment during significant procurement processes and drive forward the actions and necessary change in support of the principles of the charter. UK mental health charity Mind, the City Mental Health Alliance, the International Bar Association, the Law Societies of England and Wales and of Scotland, LawCare and the Solicitors Regulatory Authority all support the initiative.

“This year has been incredibly trying in myriad ways, and it’s more important than ever that we act on our shared responsibility to ensure the wellness of our greatest asset – our people,” said Natasha Kaye, a partner in Cooley’s London office. “We’re putting pen to paper on removing unnecessary stresses that hinder performance and gradually, yet significantly, impact well-being. We’re pleased that so many have answered the same call.”

In cooperation with the charter, Cooley commits to driving forward the actions and change necessary to support the initiative through its four key pillars: openness and respect; smart meetings and emails; respecting rest periods; and mindful delegation.

In 2018, Cooley joined the inaugural class of the American Bar Association’s Wellness Pledge, signing on to implement a seven-point plan aimed at changing the landscape of the legal profession through education, policies and culture. The firm was recently recognized for its commitments, earning a spot on Vault’s Top 30 Best Law Firms for Wellness list for its unique approach, initiatives and benefits.
