ISG and Mott MacDonald among the big winners

Big names are among the winners of the Building Awards 2020.

In a year that has been dominated the covid-19 pandemic, the winners of Building’s Proud to Help Awards were among the stars of the show, picking up prizes for their efforts in supporting the industry through the crisis. Thirteen groups received recognition in this category.

Andy Mitchell, co-chair of the Construction Leadership Council, was named Personality of the Year for his role in helping the sector navigate the issues caused by the pandemic.

In his acceptance speech, Mitchell said: "2020 has certainly been a very challenging year for everybody but it's also a year where we can be very proud of our industry.

"Thank you for this award, which I am delighted to accept on behalf of the three million people working in construction and everybody working with the Construction Leadership Council who have proven what we can do together."

Pete Redfern, from Taylor Wimpey, was named CEO of the Year.

He said: "2020 isn't over yet and it doesn't look like it's going to get much easier but I'm confident that we as a business, and the industry as a whole, can get through it in good shape and show that we are not just driven by profit but driven by trying to do things right, create new communities and do it in the right way."
