The Bradford School Immunisation team works with 43 secondary schools and 173 primary schools, as well as children and young people who are home tutored or in alternative provisions across Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven.

We explain about the benefits of immunisation and deliver immunisations in local schools and community-based clinics. Home visits are also carried out for children who may have additional needs or requirements, and who may be very anxious and need to be in more familiar surroundings.

You can stay up to date with all our latest news on our facebook page.

We value your feedback to help us to continue to improve our service. We would be very grateful if you could please spare a few moments to complete the Friends and Family Test. This helps us see what we are doing well and where our service could be improved. Your feedback is confidential, so please answer as honestly as possible. Thank you.

Protecting your child with vaccinations

Immunisation keeps children and young people safe against a range of infection diseases which cause illness. The video below explains why this is important. You can also watch this video with Slovak  subtitles or  Urdu subtitles.

Giving consent for your child to be vaccinated

A child cannot be vaccinated without a parent or guardian’s consent.

For all routine vaccinations you will receive a letter from the School Immunisation team, via your child’s school. The letter gives information on how to give your consent online, by filling in an online consent form.  If your child is home schooled you will receive a letter directly from our School Immunisation team to arrange your child’s vaccination.

You must use the unique school code sent by your child’s school to access and complete the consent form.

If you have any questions about giving your consent or you require further information about vaccinations, please contact the School Immunisation team’s Admin Hub on 01274 221269. They will arrange for a member of our Immunisation team to call you back.

There are links to our Flu, HPV and Teenage Booster e-consent forms at the bottom of this page.

Catch up clinics

All year round the School Immunisation team holds clinics for any child who has missed their vaccination/s in school or, who would prefer to receive their vaccination/s in one of these clinics:

  • Horton Park Health Centre
  • Undercliffe Health Centre
  • Keighley Health Centre

If you feel that your child has missed a vaccination, please contact our Admin Hub on 01274 221269 who will arrange for a member of the immunisation team to contact you to make an appointment.

Pre-school children

If your child is not yet at school, you will find all the information you need to know on the immunisations and vaccinations page. Please speak to your GP about what vaccinations they need.

Vaccinations offered by the School Immunisation team

The vaccinations and immunisations below are offered throughout the year. You can download our FAQs to find answers to common questions parents/carers ask, or download resources explaining what each of these is for and what you need to do to give consent for your child to receive them.

Which vaccination should my child have and when?

Human-Papillomavirus (HPV)

This vaccine is offered to both boys and girls in Year 8.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has advised that one dose of the HPV vaccine is shown to be just as effective as two doses at providing protection from HPV infection.

For this reason, from 1 September 2023, all children that receive their HPV vaccine in school will require only one dose. Those who have already received one dose of the vaccine prior to Sept 2023 will be considered fully vaccinated.

Please read this letter from the School Immunisation team about HPV vaccination doses and find out more on the NHS website.

Teenage boosters

The teenage boosters comprise of two vaccinations, one against Meningitis, and one against Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio, also known as the three-in-one or teenage booster.

These are offered to both girls and boys in Year 9 and are usually given on the same day, one in each arm. Parents will be contacted via school for consent and there is a link to the online consent form at the bottom of this page.

The team will also check if children are up-to-date on their vaccinations again Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) and will offer this if there are any missing doses.

Find out more about the Meningitis vaccination and the Teenage booster.

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) catch-up

These vaccinations are offered to Year 8 students that are outstanding either one or both doses of the MMR vaccine.

You can find out more on the NHS website.

Flu vaccinationsChild's feedback

The nasal flu spay is the most effective way for children to have the flu vaccine. It is delivered in school for eligible children.

Inactivated flu vaccine is also offered to children whose parents may refuse the nasal spray due to the porcine (pork gelatine) content.

Home-schooled children will be invited to attend one of our community clinics. Our flu vaccination programme is offered during October-December time.

You can find out more on the NHS website.

Bacille Calmette Guerin (School-age BCG)

The BCG vaccination is routinely offered in hospitals at the time of birth to children who meet the criteria of their parent or grandparent coming from country considered a high-risk of TB (Tuberculosis). Children who may have missed this vaccination at birth can be referred into our service by a healthcare professional, generally a health visitor, school nurse or practice nurse.

You can find out more on the  NHS website.

COVID-19 jab

The NHS is offering the COVID-19 vaccine to children and young people.

You can find out more information on the NHS website.
