TORONTO (December 19, 2019) – It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Hockey’s stars of tomorrow lace up their skates for TSN’s signature holiday hockey tradition, the 2020 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP – one of 60+ championship events that live on TSN – beginning Thursday, Dec. 26 live from Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic. TSN delivers complete live coverage of all 28 tournament games, culminating with the Gold Medal Game on Sunday, Jan. 5. The action begins with two pre-competition matchups, as Team Canada faces Switzerland today (Dec. 19) at 12 noon ET on TSN1 and TSN3 and then Finland on Monday, Dec. 23 at 11:30 a.m. ET on TSN1 and TSN4. Team Canada opens their tournament campaign against rivals Team USA on Thursday, Dec. 26 at 1 p.m. ET on TSN1, TSN3, and TSN4, followed by a challenging match-up against Russia on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. ET on TSN1, TSN3, and TSN4 (the complete broadcast schedule is available here). The 2020 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP marks the 30th anniversary of the tournament airing on Canada’s Sports Leader. TSN first delivered coverage of the World Juniors in 1990, and the tournament has since grown into the country’s favourite holiday hockey tradition, with millions of viewers tuning in each year. TSN preps Canadians for the tournament with the 2020 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW SHOW hosted by James Duthie alongside TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button, play-by-play commentator Gord Miller, and analysts Ray Ferraro and Jeff O’Neill. The hour-long, comprehensive preview airs Monday, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. ET on TSN, and features the following highlights:

  • McKenzie, Button, and Ferraro analyze the forwards and the blueliners for Team Canada
  • Miller sits down for an interview with Team Canada Head Coach Dale Hunter
  • Marking the 30th year of TSN broadcasting the World Juniors, Michael Farber delivers an essay reflecting on the first 29 years
  • O’Neill outlines his favourite World Juniors memories
  • Members of Team Canada compete in a present wrapping competition, with play-by-play provided by TSN reporter Mark Masters
  • Button does his annual bracketology, projecting preliminary round and medal round winners
TSN’s studio coverage is led by Duthie and McKenzie throughout the preliminary round, medal round, and Gold Medal Game. They are joined by O’Neill for Team Canada games. TSN’s Laura Diakun and Dave Reid also host coverage of the tournament’s preliminary round live from the TSN Studio. Delivering the call of all Team Canada games, as well as the medal round and Gold Medal Game is the acclaimed duo of Miller and Ferraro, with Tessa Bonhomme reporting from rinkside in Ostrava.
