ASLEF, the train drivers’ union, has announced a range of industrial action at multiple train companies between Monday 6 and Saturday 11 May. Avanti West Coast are affected by strike action on Wednesday 8 May, while other operators are affected on 7, 8 and 9 May. An overtime ban is in place through the week from Monday 6 to Saturday 11 May.

Please do not attempt to travel with Avanti West Coast on Wednesday 8 May as we will not be running any services on our routes.

Avanti West Coast services on the days either side of the strike will also be affected, along with industrial action impacting other train companies throughout the week, so we recommend you check your entire journey before you travel.

If you booked tickets to travel on a strike day before the industrial action was announced on 22 April, you can claim a full, fee-free refund from your point of purchase or use them to travel on alternative dates. Find out more below.

To minimise the number of people disrupted, we suspend ticket sales for our services on strike days as soon as they're announced. We expect online journey planners to reflect the amended strike timetables on the following dates:

  • By Wednesday 1 May, Wednesday 8 May’s lack of Avanti West Coast train service due to strike action and amended timetables for Tuesday 7, Thursday 9 and Friday 10 May are expected to show correctly in journey planners.
  • By Thursday 2 May, Saturday 11 May’s amended timetable (the final day affected by the overtime ban) is expected to be updated in online journey planners.

Please continue to check our website and those of other operators for updates.
