ex Galateo

A new model for living, a space for services, work and new opportunities

The project proposes the regeneration and reuse of the building known as “Ex Galateo” in Lecce. The building, currently in a state of neglect, aims to become an identifying and attractive landmark for the city and the surrounding area. The design choices were aimed at defining a fusion between architectural design and social policy. We imagine a large container that systematizes shared living, services and open public spaces, places for businesses and start-ups.

PUBLIC SPACE

The project integrates with the surrounding urban context: the building becomes a strategic ax to cross from the historic center to the park to the south. Along the promenade there are public facilities open to the city (markets, bars, restaurants, multifunctional spaces).

COHOUSING – STUDENT HOUSE

The proposal intends to balance the need for residential privacy with the public dimension, declining co-living to the different needs present in the area (student residence, temporary residence, cohousing). The accommodations are developed ensuring maximum flexibility of spaces. Home automation and sensors integrated systems allow residents to be aware of consumption by defining strategies and goals, as well as to share these both with the floor occupants and with the entire community of the complex.
